What is this droidbox ? John!
I am too lazy to Google it. Can you use it in the Motorhome? And is it expensive ?

I have one, they are brilliant but not the most user friendly of devices. You need an internet connection as Mark says but I use one at home with no buffering at all and my internet is only 2.3 meg/sec

Next step is to try it in the van and connect it through my phone which has speeds up to 30 meg/sec and when 4g is released up to 100meg/sec.

I'll have it working in the van at Vantastival if you want to see it then.

UK footprint from 28.2 east

 ·
Posted: 02.05.2014  ·  #43
I was speaking to the Astra people at a trade show this week they confirmed that only the north of France will get reliable reception from the new transponders. This was requested by the UK programme providers. However I asked him about the possibility of side lobes from the transmission and he confirmed that in certain places a strong signal is possible outside the main footprint. These are small areas in unpredictable locations and if you are fortunate enough to be located in one of these you may get signals. The other option is a sling box at home connected to your freeview or satellite box and then you can get all you channels over the internet

Short answer is YES

Longer answer is more complex.

You will need a fast internet connection with a high number of MB
You already need to be a sky customer
You need to subscribe to slingbox at additional cost.

Buy a droidbox or skybox and forget about TV in france...LOL

You could connect a slingbox to a freeview box or a freesat box and get the free channels you would get at home.

The fact you need internet and pay a sub to slingbox you would be better off with a droidbox, only problem is to find a way to power them from a 12v supply instead of the inverter

Skybox can be run off 12 volt and connected to mifi.
I have no idea how much data it would use to keep it doing what it does.

Short answer is a lot, if you take a blu ray is on a disc of about 4.5GB a couple of films could effectively wipe out a 1 or 2gb download limit.

The data connection is there to keep the codes

They are definitely one of the lucky ones, we are not unless I want to invest in a 2m dish at over 1000euro or I could invest in another droid box at £90

I wonder which I will choose.

Your house is much further south so I suppose we are lucky to not need a bigger dish YET.

My parents have unlimited fast internet but I don't think could cope with the menu on a droidbox.
