Last week several of the transponders changed on the satellite a 28 east, this will mean that some systems will be unable to lock onto the satellite and will require a software update. So before heading off check that your system is locking onto the satellite. I know the Glomex domes require an update and there may well be other systems that need programmed to look for a different transponder because the one they are looking for is no longer transmitting!

The dealers should be able to access the codes, I installed the new software in my Glomex dome this afternoon and it did the trick and can find the satellite again. Not all systems may be affected. Only the systems that are programmed to the transponders that are off will be affected. Check first, if it finds the satellite and locks onto it then you should be OK, if it keeps looking and cant find the satellite, then new software will be needed
Simon at Leisure technical solutions tells that recent satellite changes are effecting some systems.
He can update and check your system for £20 - 25 this is a reduced rate for Craic members.

It's when you head into Europe that the problems occur, I have been told that I might have to increase the size of my dish from 1.5m to 1.9 to get all the uk channels and that is only as far as Catalonia.
There are suggestions that it may be rumour that the beam focus will tighten.. If it is true the no portable system will be able to pick UK channels up anyhow. Best wait and see.

Right it looks as though the days of using a satellite system in Spain May be over if you want the sky type of service, I have a 1.5m dish on the hacienda but will have to move to a 2.1m dish to keep getting all the uk channels on the Astra satellites which will involve a concrete base and ground mounted. I am around 200 miles from the Spain/France border so not as south as some. So if a house needs a dish of that size I don't think the Motorhomes have a chance. The channels are moving over the next 6weeks so everything has still to settle down but with a cost of around 1000euro I will be trying to find alternatives.

I think we need to get back to the days when we stuck a wire coat hanger in the back of the TV and got a great picture.

I noticed several weeks ago- in Howth- that the dish struggled to home in on the Astra satellite. At that time there was a possibility an obstacle was blocking the line-of-sight, so as I was too lazy to move the camper, I waited until this weekend when I was in Wexford to do a full unobstructed search. The dish found the satellite very quickly, but after 10 seconds or so the picture froze and the system kept searching as if trying to accurately 'lock-on' but without success- light was orange only, picture came and went. Looks like I have a problem. Last time this happened the dish was less than a year old and my son spoke to Glomex in Italy and he was able to insert an SD card in the system which worked perfectly until recently. Not sure what exactly he done!! Not sure if I can get the same treatment direct from Glomex this time, but I will have to get it sorted. Dont mind paying, but it is the inconvenience of driving to techie to get it sorted. Again I am not sure if I should sit tight and see if there are any further changes happening. Any views please??
Regards
Franco

Does anyone have any info on the satellite footprint and what size of dish is required for reception in South France and Spain. I as able to get coverage with a 65cm disk in northern Italy and southern France in Nov 13.

Updated Thursday, 6 Feb, 2014. This page will be updated with Astra 2E reports shortly. FEB 06
Most free UK channels, including those from the BBC, have been moved from Astra 1N to the Astra 2E and Astra 2F satellites. Astra 2E, launched on 29th. September 2013, has a similar, but not identical reception pattern to Astra 2F. Astra 1N will be completely replaced by Astra 2E and 2F soon. Many of Eurobird's channels were moved to the Astra satellites on 10th. October after a legal dispute between SES Astra and Eutelsat was settled.
In Madrid Astra 2F can be received on a 120 cm dish in the north of the city. To the south of the capital, a 150 cm is needed. In the north of Spain, dishes of 120 cm and 150 cm are receiving Astra 2F. There are no reports of dishes of ANY size working on Astra 2F in Catalunya, Zaragoza and a large part of southern Spain including most of Portugal. Dishes of 1.8 metres will receive Astra 2F in Menorca, but with no rain margin. For all-weather reception, the size increases to 2.4 metres. This assumes a good quality fibreglass dish such as those made by Skyware or Prodelin. Cheaper steel and aluminium dishes will not fare so well. In the Costa Blanca, dishes as small as 90cm are reported as receiving Astra 2F. Most of Murcia needs 150 to 2 metres, the same as the old 2D. Dishes that could receive Astra 2D in Ibiza and Mallorca are reported OK on Astra 2F. In the Canaries, dishes of 3 metres and up are needed for Astra 2F UK beam.
In southern Spain, the Algarve and Gibraltar the outlook is bleak. Most of the southern third of Spain and Portugal will lose BBC, ITV, Channel Four and Channel Five by Friday 7th. February 2014. The footprint is the same as Astra 2F, which cannot be received in this part of the country.
Remember: The Astra 2E and 2F switch will not affect Sky's pay channels, which are likely to remain on widebeam. As an estimated one million of Sky's 10 million subscribers are living in mainland Europe, it is highly unlikely that Sky will deliberately cut off 10% of its revenue. BBC services will be limited to roughly the northern two thirds of the country from February 2014. A Prodelin 3.2 metre dish
3.2 metre dishes like this one (right, to scale) may be needed to receive BBC services in the south of Spain from February 2014. The cost might start at €3,000 to € 4,000 euros, not including mount, cable and installation. In the very far south, it's possible no signal may be received with any size dish.

Sorry folks- this might be a stupid question, but does anybody know was the new transpondor numbers are?
Think I will have to drive to Dromore to get system done. I got my camper there, and service was great.
Enjoy Patricks day! I'm off to Howth for a pint shortly, on Dart.
1.2 meter dish will do north of Alicante. Had a email from a friend how is there. This weekend.

i just heard recently you need a 2.5 mtr dish in south of Spain now ,you have to put in concrete foundations for it as well , looks like you will have to talk again

Down in benidorm at the moment I can get astra 1 but not 2, all the static vans have 1.5 metre or bigger dishes. Local reception is digital and not bad but no corrie or eastenders

Well I have arrived in Cataluña and tried the satellite and no main uk channels, we can get qvc, true, sky news and loads of religious (Christian and Muslim) ones and a few others of lets say dubious nature. It is receiving the station ID as I did a fresh scan but not getting a signal to receive them. So as has been reported in the various publications, no decent tv.
This is all from a 1.2m dish and a FTA sat box.
However on the plus side I brought the droidbox out and I can get uk tv on it, it seems to be working well, I will give it a better road test later as I have 28deg and wall to wall sunshine at the moment.

What is this droidbox ? John!
I am too lazy to Google it. Can you use it in the Motorhome? And is it expensive ?
It is TV over internet Pat.
So in short using it in the Motorhome would require a good internet speed.
I looked into it but the house internet may not have been up to it. I went for a skybox f5s which still requires internet but only for codes not picture.
