Highland Radio News today 3/10/2013

A Donegal County Cllr has called for legislation to be brought in to prevent large numbers of camper vans from taking up prime parking locations around the county.

Cllr Sean McEniff made the calls at this weeks Council meeting.

He said these vans park in public carparks and leave “a bloody mess behind them”.

The Fianna Fail Cllr said these are tourists that the county does not need as far as he is concerned:

Cllr Mceniff is a Donegal blow in himself, a Tyrone man I believe, whose family run numerous establishments such as hotels, amusement arcades, chippies etc in what the tourist board call Beautiful Bundoran. I'm sure his establishments have never caused littering and upheaval to resident Donegal natives.
Again another example of ignorance in recognition off the benefits motorhomer finances bring to a community. This councillor is only interested in filling empty rooms in his establishments and knows that Motorhomers won't benifit his greedy palms.
Most posters here would not give dirty,corrupt, money grabbing Bundoran a look in, it is already on our area black list.

Folks don't panic. I am Donegal born and bred this guy lives in Bundoran and he is ill informed about Motorhomes. If there are enough folk interested in meeting him I will ask him to meet us and tell him the true story. Who is up for it?

Sorry Jack, a simple Google search on this fine upstanding councillor would suggest that he is a narrow minded caveman with only his own interests at heart. He has allegedly been racist in a February radio interview, with regards to the travelling community who wanted to be housed in Ballyshannon, which resulted in an arson attack on the house and ultimately Mceniffs hotels being boycotted.
Councillor Mceniffs probably thinks all Motorhomers are travellers.

Yeah Chevy g20 but my take on it is that he needs to be challenged eyeball to eyeball. I'm a great believer in facing people face to face and getting the facts out. I know all about the McEniffs as I grew up in Donegal and can talk their language.

The fact that he said the above shows what a narrow minded individual he is. Massive generalisation on something he knows absolutely nothing about.

With a bit of luck those that he said it too will also realise he knows nothing on the subject and is completely ignoring an economic gain in his area.

For the record: I have never witnessed another Motorhomer leave a mess never mind a bloody one. What I have witnessed is Motorhomers tidying an area they park in in case they get the blame for the mess.

We have used Mr Mc Eniffs hotel's to eat in, we will no longer use them.We will take our business elsewhere

Quite right Ally. I parked at a fiends house in Portrush at the weekend. There were a lot of crisp bags lying about and I took them home incase the neighbours thought I had tipped them out of the van. I thing the vast majority of motorhomers leave no mess.

Yeah that's how all of us feel as we don't want our hoppy to get a bad name. Col McEniff ha sent a clue what he is talking about. He should talk to us before he makes such statements. God has given him 2 ears and one mouth so that he might listen twice as much as he speaks but he's got it the other way round. Next he will be telling God to create us with 2 mouths and one ear.

Yes Augharan I have done the same with litter lying around our van at times and collected it just in case we would be blamed for leaving it behind us, im sure we all have at times done the same. Cllr McEniff seems to have made quite a few enemies for himself over this which being a businessman in the county concerned he can ill afford,however he will be the looser I have no doubt about that if we all stick together. :D :up:

I hope Counsiler McEniff sees this. He is happy to take our Euros in his hotel but not our vans. But he needs to realise he can't have one without the other.

I must add that I was in Rosses Point recently for 4 days and spent money in local hotel and restraurants each day. Nobody refused my money!

Just received a reply from the Inishowen tourist board,stating that the views of Cllr Mc Eniff do not reflect the views of the Inishowen tourist board,or the people of Buncranna,we are more then welcome in Buncranna,and they are in the process of extending the aires.

We are as frustrated as any one else with councillor Mceniffs attitude to motorhomes.I personally have requested by email to meet him but to no avail.I will keep trying.

Sorts I'm not surprised he speaks. Enforce he thinks. As I said before he needs to realise that God has given him 2 ears and 1 mouth but he hasn't realised the reason why God did that. I will reiterate it again in case he reads this. It's the he might listen twice as much as he speaks. A lesson for all of us. Now I'm getting off my pulpit.

I spent last weekend in donegal at the harvest rally we were in dungloe,crolly,derrybeg,bunbeg,kincaslagh,gweedore,bought diesel,food,beer,spent about 300 euro there were about 20 different motorhomes around the rally we were made more than welcome everywhere we went great county great people mc eniff won't stop me from going to the county I love

Maurice McEniff doesn't speak for the good folk of a Donegal. He's a bow in and if he would blow out he would be doing the county a favour and everyone else as well. I was in Donegal town for the food festival and the organisers because they used the Quay for the marquees they provided alternative facilities at St Joh Boscos Car Park. The chair said to me how much they appreciated the custom motorhomers brought to the town. Boycott all McEniff Hotels and Bundoran. Hurt them where it counts euros in their pockets.
