First. It was great to meet up with the Craicers who were camped up at Kilclif on 21/2 September( including Ally and Billy) We were the ones in the DAF truck. Thanks for all the info and of course 'good craic'.
We headed to the Strangford lock ferry the next morning and since there seemed to be some doubt as to what it would cost I thought I'd let you know how we went on. No-one asked how long the truck was and we were charged a flat £12 for a return ticket. I wondered after if there are high and low season costs.
We also tried the hook up facilities at Donaghadee courtesy of your info. We were just a few days late to get tokens from the office next to the hook up point. Bit of a walk along the shore into town to the 'Pier 36' bar but they too had run out of tokens so carried on walking to the Centro Petrol station on the other side of town. 4 tokens at £1 per token. Bought us 200 ltrs water and two thirds of a battery charge.
