Just stayed friday and saturday night in Carlingford at the 4 sea seasons hotel, very safe and would highly recommend it, friday night 4 vans and saturday night 6 vans a great spot, nice hotel live music saturday night and just a short walk to town which has some lively bars and restaurants. A few vans also parked down at the pier but much prefer the hotel.

just to let you all know stayed under the castle at the pier last weekend lovely spot done the red loop walk on sat ant hit town sat night for a couple drinks very busy in the pubs so decided to try the hotel lovely place not too crowded even though there was two hens there ! anyway i asked the receptionist on the way out about the parking of motor-homes in the car park for future reference and her reply was " There was a meeting by management last week and the decision was made to cease allowing owners of motor-homes to park overnight in the hotel car park and that they have ordered signs to put up and that it was the last weekend that they would be tolerated in the car park" so im sad to say that was our first experience in carlingford. :'(

Oh dear, there will be quite a few dissapointed Motorhomers and the local bars will lose quite a bit of revenue.

I hope we don't lose it as a stop over but there must be some truth in it as it goes back to a previous post when the owner had been annoyed at a motor homer barbequing in the grounds. It had been said then they were going to stop us parking up but thankfully to date it hasn't happened. Its up to us to show support to the Hotel and really make it known that we are supporting the Hotel and not abusing the facility they provide to us.

Its a fantastic spot Liz. I have only stopped of for a bite to eat and never imagined they would be happy to let us overnight. I guess it would be subject to a fair amount of road noise. I believe they have a Halloween theme to the place this month would that be right?

No motorhome parking sign up at rear of Four Seasons Hotel this morning , a great big thank you to the SELFISH IDIOT barbqueing on private hotel property . This goes to show us all that we MUST be considerate to the people and areas where we park , taking up 4 car parking spaces and other absolute STUPID thoughtless carry on will just loose us the areas where we can park ,there is a serious anti motorhome lobby out there DONT give them ammunition 😠

Agree with everything you say. A real loss to Motorhomers as Carlingford is such a great spot. It only takes one idiot to ruin it for everyone.

I know a man who knows a man who knows another man who done the deed.

Shall we beat him up? hang him? or what are your plans?

Lets not start a witch hunt especially on something that we have no way of doing anything about it. The Four Seasons know rightly how many Motorhomers spend money in their Hotel, if that is not enough for them then they are getting greedy and if the BBQ fiend had so much to do with it then why didn't they just bar him/them?

I ran a pub, if one person pissed me off I didn't bar all my customers.

There will be more to it than just one having a BBQ, perhaps those that make use of it could politely ask the hotel as to why it has now been stopped and would they not reconsider their decision!

Ally the incident involving the BBQ was something the owner came across himself on a visit to the Hotel but I don't think it was the only incident that had taken place. I was told by staff that there had been a number of occasions when vans had stayed for long periods of time using toilet facilities etc. without contributing to the Hotel. That is the type of thing which gets us, as a group, a bad name. In my opinion the BBQ was possibly the final straw and with other incidents meant barring the group. But maybe its all hearsay.

I am sure there were other incidents.

I still think though if the hotel wanted the business it work with us and not ban us. eg: £10 per night per van for anyone not wishing to buy alcohol etc

I believe they have, but don't quote me.

The point is, if the Hotel requires the business it would strive to get that business. It obviously doesn't need us so it's easy to ban us. It can't be up to Motorhomers on ALL occasions to advise business owners, if a place is already being used then they should of policed it.

This is very bad news we love carlingford and spent most Saturdays behind the hotel and we always had a few drinks in the bar if not lunch before we came home don't know where we're going to spend our weekends now someone says they can name the person I think they should ,things like this make you want to sell the van it's getting harder to find places to stay >_<

If Carlingford does not want us then go somewhere else.We all know that there are plenty of good spots on the east coast within a short drive,ie.Fitzpatricks,Annagassan,Dundalk, Drogheda and one of our fav's, Skerries.
When parking at the hotel in Carlingford we would always use the hotel first and leave the receipt on the dash to show them that we were not complete spivs, but from now on we will give the village a wide berth. We used Fitzpatricks recently without any problems.Road noise was definatly a problem but the quality of food and service easily made up for that.Highly recommended.
