Some info from LED HUT

Why LED Lights Are The Safest Choice For Motorhomes

You have probably heard the new buzzword in lighting, but what exactly are LED lights? Quite simply, LED’s (also known as light emitting diodes) are the future for home and business lighting. They are really the unsung heroes in the electronics world!

LED’s are basically tiny light bulbs that fit easily into an electrical circuit, but they don’t have a filament, so unlike traditional light bulbs they will not burn out or get hot. LED lights are even shaped like a traditional light bulb, it’s just what’s inside that makes them special! Because they don’t get hot, they don’t waste energy producing heat – their energy is generated into light and much less energy is required to light the bulb.

Here’s how LED’s will save you money! LED light bulbs use on average up to 90% less energy than standard bulbs. Just by making the switch to LED lights you will enjoy instant savings on your lighting bill. If you are wondering how to make the switch to LED lights – it couldn’t de easier.

Usually, making the switch to LED’s does not require any modification to the motorhome wiring and will not require additional electronics. Typically motorhomes use 12 volt lights, so can be exchanged for 12 volt LED lights.

Unlike traditional light bulbs, there is a choice of colour – cool white, warm white or colour changing! The general rule of thumb is cool white for a bathroom or kitchen where clearer lighting is required and warm white for a more subtle, mellow effect. Colour changing bulbs add great atmosphere to any party occasion!

Another very important advantage of using LED lights in a motorhome is their safety benefit. Because they don’t get hot, they are by far a much safer choice, and in fact, it could be argued that this is reason alone to make the switch to LED’s.

Although LED lights cost more to initially purchase than standard or energy saving bulbs, you will soon recover this extra outlay in the reduced running costs of your LED’s, together with the fact that LED lights last around 20 times longer than standard bulbs. So, great news for your bank balance, and great news that you will not have to spend time finding and replacing light bulbs for many years to come.

Don’t delay making the switch to LED lights! Visit LED HUT for bulb advice and further information. Why not use their energy saving calculator to work out how much money you could save, by making the switch? With energy bills rising, now is the time to make yourself energy efficient with LED lights.

Hi All I have changed all my internal lighting to LEDs since 2010, have also changed the Tv to Led we can now stay away wild camping for at least a week at a time and have had no problems with flat batteries. I have 2 x 110 amp leisure batteries on board. A few weeks ago a friend traveling with us had a problem with his starter battery and I gave him one of the leisure batteries to get him started and to take him home, I have only the one leisure battery in the van at the moment and have been away on long weekends from Friday to Monday and have had no problems either. Before I changed from Halogen and had an ordinary 12 / 220 volt Tv I ran into problems a few times while wild camping on weekends Fri to Sun. For me anyway guy's and gal's its a no brainier there is no argument there Leds are the way to go. I have now started to change all the external lighting at present I have all the side lights and front and rear and rear No Plate lights changed to Leds.

Looking at some of their 12V LED strips for above my cupboards in the MH.

For the more LED technical of you...... :)

It says I need a transformer to operate the strip light (it will operate more than one). Do I need the transformer as the MH is already 12volt?

As long as the led's are 12v DC then you'll be fine on battery Ally.

As always, don't forget to hook it up to a fused line.

Outside LED welcome light fading fast!

 ·

Hi everyone;
My "welcome home" light which comes on when I lock/open the van from the keyfob is slowly dying. The wee lights are going out one by one as you can see on the pics. Do I need to replace the whole unit or is there an alternative? I took the cover off the side to look at the inside of it.
Not sure can't see any screws it must be glued on 🇧🇭 <_<

You will have to replace the whole strip, looking at the pics it looks as if the white plastic is glued on but you may be able to prise the led strip out and replace it.

With it being cold use a hair dryer on it for a minute or two to try and stop the plastic snapping as it is more brittle in the cold

Finished up dated my lights to LED like alot of you guys have done before

Re the centre lights I tried the panels but couldnt get on with them so fitted external short strip LED around (inside) the fitting
One reason Ididnt like the LED panel on the ones I Bought the glue failed because the units got toohot and this ontop of a couple of LEDs failing in each unit. The strips Are fixed to the fittings with wire and give a gentle light

I have also put a striplights under the window pelmet and door pelmet which are great as reading lights.
I have switched each power for the windowone I took from kitchen light with a switch mounted on the pelmet, the over door one was taken from behind the TV socket and the switch mounted at the sideof the headrest for the seat near the door
