New C1 test

Good news if you're looking to drive a motorhome. The Cat C1 7.50 tonne driving test will be even easier for you to pass.
If you passed your driving test after the 1st of January 1997 you can currently drive a Cat C1 vehicle if you pass a further practical and theory test. These elements of the of the Cat C1 test are driving hour regulations, rest hours and tachometer theory which is ok for commercial vehicle driving but completely unnecessary for private motorhome drivers.

In November last year after pressure from the European Caravan Federation - ECF a directive was published by the European Commission which introduces a new Category called C1 97 especially for motorhome drivers.

Under this new directive to pass the Cat c1 97 test you will no longer be required to have an understanding or be tested on the commercial aspects to the licence. All EU countries must comply by the 31st of December 2013.

The Driving Standards Agency the DSA and Driver Vehicle and Licensing Agency - DVLA are currently still in talks with the National Caravan Council with a view to bringing the directive to the UK as soon as possible.

Truck Training UK will report and news as soon as this happens.

If it takes the uk government as long to adopt this directive as it has some of the other traffic ones, for example trailer sizes, then we are in for a long weight.
