Webasto heating

 ·

On day 2 of 28 away and took a shower in van after which there was a water leak (pump coming on ) no sign of any water in van so after about an hour looked under van and water was coming from over flow in expansion bottle of heating system (webasto diesel ) so i turned the van water pump off ------- middle of the night need a drink of water turn on pump fill glass in dark , undrinkable ,looked in glass in the morning and water was blue ( anti freeze from heating system ) i like my alcohol but that was pushing it---- QUESTION has anybody got any ideas as to how i can separate the 2 water systems so we can have tap water running again, using bottled water, but its a pain we are near the Belgian border (heading towards Holland ) but webasto service people are thin on the ground is there a way to dump the heating water and then by-pass the fresh water from going into heating system so we up and running again
PS all going great apart from that

Sounds like a nightmare Dave, I am no expert but I think you will need professional help to clear the contamination.

Sorry eirebus is this a wet or dry webasto heater, wet units include volkswagon, audi. Rover, BMW etc although used in motorhomes these can be used in numerous motorhoming applications for radiator systems and car plants to pre heat units. A wet unit can be obtained easily on ebay

Hi Paul ,a diesel run boiler heats its own water supply ( with anti freeze in it )which then heats the van water supply through this heat exchanger unit ,, my unit is leaking so contaminating van water supply with heating unit anti-freeze water i have isolated the 2 water systems from each other but this leaves me with no heating the webasto exchanger is £300 and similar systems are as cheap as£50 but which exchanger can i use ????

Sorry Dave, I should have read the entire post. I didn't realise it was the heat exchanger. The webasto in the cars don't have exchangers, they just heat the engine block and heater radiator. The diesel burners are 5 kW and are probably the same as you have but unfortunately it is not the bit you need.

Is repairable Dave?

Radiator repairs may be able to get you out of trouble,

Quick google search found this Link

Don't know anything about them just a google search,

Galway radiators used to re-core rads before but not sure if they are still on the go,

I googled them and nearest I found is Another link

Could be the same co that has changed the name, maybe Taylor might be able to shed some light on this?

Hope this helps

The likes of rad fix should be able to repair it, I'm sure therei s a similar place in all big towns, there was a radiator manufacture in conemara, I don't know if it's still in business a guy called Mike Lynskey was the owner, they could make up new cores,

Thanks ally for fixing the links (fecking iPad again :-/ )

Taylor I used to deliver stuff to that spot,
It was in the small little ind est on the right just before you come into spiddal (I can still get the distinct smell) but for the life of me I cannot think of the name of it (Irish of course) I think it was next to the spot that makes the fire brigades,

Hope Eirebus gets sorted

Sorry John (MM) for not getting back to you , when i tried to take exchanger out i found a fifth outlet under it and i could not get at it ,the heating etc is all bolted onto the van and then the walls and roof are put together on top of them when the van is being built, so its very difficult to get at anything at a later date, a local mechanic has camper experance and is going to try and get it out this Fri and then its off to Kilcock rads. where i hope it can be repaired thanks for your great idea , they will test it and i will see where i go from there ,i hope they can repair it because i have not seen any exchangers with 5 outlets if i have to buy 1 .If the worst comes to the worst i can separate the 2 water systems but i will have no hot water for shower etc..just heating and water Thanks again

Webasto Thermotop C Preheaters?

 ·
Posted: 08.01.2014  ·  #23
Good Morning All,
I have been trying to get a Thermotop C Webasto Water Heater working and need a new PCB Unit as the one I have I stripped out of a Chrysler Voyager and there is a CAN Bus system required to tell the thing to start.
I have tried every conceivable manner of wiring loom as recommended by various Webasto Manuals, www and still it wont kick up. I am loathed to but a PCB from the web to find that the thing didn't work anyway and am stuck with an outlay of £200 with no innings.
I can get the preheater going, the fan goes full kilter and the fuel pump works separately when switched to earth, but not in a suitable sequence as it should be.
Anyone have a knackered unit or a test loom or some way of seeing if this unit works?
Thanks
