I have recently returned from a trip to Orkney and the facilities there are out of this world.

there are many beach side car parks with spotlessly clean toilets - including hot water, soap, and driers and toilet paper - most have a tap with a hose fitting!

Several also have a "waiting room" although quite what you would be waiting for I dont know but they are clean warm and usually supplied with a pile of not too ancient magazines.

the two main (council run) campsites are superb - if a litle expensive at £20.50 hard stand and EHU (£18 without the hard stand) the wash rooms though are brilliant about 20 unisex cubicles containg shower, toilet and wash basin. there is also a lounge and indoor pot wash area along with a laundry (£2 for a wash about £1.50 for a tumble dry).

It is however the wild camping facilities that are most impressive.

we toured "mainland" Orkney using many wild camping sites never having the slightest agravation
