Hi, I am selling a Hymer 5 berth to buy a six berth (possibly tag axle). What im wondering is that is there a big difference in power/MPG/cruising speed/hill climbing ability considering the smaller SWB Hymer and larger LWB Ducato have the same 2445cc TD engine. I am talking about the older ducato TD engines up to 1995. Of course there must be a difference but i'm just looking from the 'word' from someone with ACTUAL experience and not just hearsay or opinion.

We have a 1987 Hymer 644 and while we mainly have used it so far to go back and forward to Kirkistown, we did put 1000 miles on it last year going to the Goodwood Revival. It was a fairly brisk run down and back cruising around 65/70 and we reckoned we got around 23 to 24 mpg.

When we bought it last Easter, we took it to France for a few days and running in a very relaxed way, we reckoned it was doing about 27/28 although it has only done a genuine 50,000 miles so the engine is still quite fresh.

I bought it 20 minutes after it appeared on eBay and while I never saw it until we arrived to drive it away, I have not seen anything since that I prefer the layout of. I have put a lot of work into it including a full respray, the reason it was relatively cheap to buy was it had been brush painted in the past, but has turned out well and although the list of the jobs to be done never seems to be getting any smaller, we are getting there!!
