I was at the airshow and when I took a walk up to that end of town they were all around the outside and along the sea front etc. The official aire was full on friday night. We had booked a site but ended up wild camping, thats a different story and not sure if i will put it up on here or not, but I will state that site owners are all greedy exploiting parasites.
The airshow itself was a dissapointment with the weather and all the no-shows. The volume of people was down in my opinion from previous years and the quality of the side show stalls etc was again a bit disapointing.

For a start Coleraine council for their charges for Carrick Dhu and Juniper Hill, normal rates are around £20 per night for pitch and EHU but for the airshow it becomes £40 per night! But they were not who I was going to go with!

join the mccni for forty quid a year.
get parking in school in the centre of portrush for
nw200
pipe bands
air show
the sooner people realize the greed of site owners and councils the better, dont pay their sky high rates to park in a town which doesnt want you.
when our rally is in portrush i buy and stock my van up before i get to portrush so i dont support them.
all other rally venues i buy locally and support them....simples
I love Portrush/Portsewart and its such a shame how the campsite owners are getting so greedy, we have stayed in Ramore for airshow last couple of years but didnt go this year as it clashed with something else we were committed to. We paid £350 to stay in field beside pits in North West for 1 week with no facilities last year but thankfully my sister now has holiday house in Portstewart where are motorhome fits quite snugly in the driveway even when she is not there.
When are businesses going to wake up to the benefits of providing fair prices to motorhomers and encouraging more tourism in the area
I am always complaining about things not done right but if i cant improve it i avoid it. I cannot understand why so many on this forum even go near Portrush. Every time someone visits there seems to be an endless list of complaints about almost everything in the town. Why not visit and accept the high prices and the poor Aires or avoid altogether.

Ok, just to fill everyone in on my previous comments, we had booked the Causeway Coast Touring Site in Portrush for the airshow, for anyone who doesnt know where it is, its on the coast road between Portrush and Portstewart beside Juniper Hill. We booked it because we had the two grandkids with us which we informed them of. We duly arrived around 9pm due to the pressures of work and were allocated a spot right beside the road (with a 3 year old on-board!) We asked was there anywhere else and a bit of grumping we were asked to park beside a van (not a motorhome and I mean right beside, read a foot away) when we asked about the spaces to the rear of the site we were told they were for caravans as they have to be 5m apart! We eventually were allowed to park in one of those as long as we stayed close to the marker pin. Now if I worked for Tyrone Brick I might have been able to get enough stuff to get the pitch level but my leveling ramps could not cope and while pondering what to do another motorhome along with a car load of people arrive and set up, inside the 5m area I was in. Now dont get me wrong I dont mind people parking beside me, but it was the one rule for caravans and to hell with the rules for the motorhomes. The price of the site was quoted to us at £22 per night including EHU but once we started to got there the price changed to £25 per night including EHU, the reason for the increase was because it was the airshow weekend. To top it off showers were available at £1 each. Again I don't mind paying for a shower but at that price it was taking the proverbial. We decided to move on and not pay for the privilege and wild camped a bit down the road beside other camper vans.
I have a pet hate of being quoted one thing and then subsequently charged another, and to clarify it we rang to see if they had availability and what the price was and rang back the next day and confirmed both the booking and the price and at no time was a supplement mentioned for the airshow.
This site was just interested in getting as many onto their site as they could and to charge a premium for the pleasure, so I for one will give this site a big thumbs down.

Folks in Motorhome Craic stay away from Portrush. Hurt them where it counts with your spending. We had a good week end at Ballintoy Harbour and we saw the planes at Portrush without paying anything and got out own display of the Red Arrows on their way back to Aldergrove. Let the Portrush folk stuff it.
