Parking ticket nightmare

Hi All; Absolutely scundered after receiving a £90 parking ticket in Newtownards on Friday. We paid our 80p for 2 hours and used Kennel Lane car park. I made sure I was in a space, in a corner, not blocking or potentially hindering anyone. The car park was nearly empty anyway as it was after 4pm. Obviously my front wheels were out over the line but not causing any inconvenience to anyone. The area directly in front of me was not a parking space. Roll on 30 mins we were back after a quick scoot into a few shops. Big f***in penalty envelope on the windscreen "not parked within the bay" notice!!! The car park was still almost empty! I am going to challenge this as it is very unreasonable. I am so privileged to be able to pay only £45 if I pay within 14 days. Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!! J flan

Flans Van go for it it's a discrase. Motorhomers need to challenge this as motorhomes are too big for a car space. Before the start putting tickets on our windscreens they need to provide spaces that are adequate. We all need to descend on Newtownards and get the media there and show them up. Go for it and go to your local MLA s as they do nothing anyway and it might give them some work to do.

You pay insurance and tax for your vehicle, it's piss poor that they can't provide a parking space for you. What happens to lorries and buses with regards to parking. Are they exempt from parking properly. Recent information shows that parking space ii designed for 1970s ford escorts and not even compatible with modern cars. Mine is small enough for parking bays just. Why charge vehicle excise duty with no provision to stop the same.

P.S. Is it a private parking ticket or a council one?

If it's private bring it with you the next time you light a fire.

You've had bad luck there. We had the same problem a few years ago in Dover on our way to the ferry. It was a £50 fine but £25 if paid within 14 days. We went to the council office and queried it. We asked what we were supposed to do when we can't fit in a bay even though the car park is virtually empty. They had no answer and as we were off to the continent we paid the £25 fine.
Later on a traffic warden came back to the car park. She was actually quite nice and I asked her what we could do if we wanted to park here again (it was free after 6pm and handy enough to overnight for the ferry before we discovered Marine Drive). She said that as we were taking 2 bays we should buy 2 tickets.
I suppose she had a point there, and that's what we do in most countries now if there are signs saying you must park within the bays.

The girl that works with me appealed one & amazingly she won! So it is poss!
This is particularly annoying because you went to so much trouble to park with care ... Let us know how you get on.

Appeal it as I said and see what happens. If they don't let's all decend on znewtownards and block the place. This kinda thing makes me see red and furious.

contact Jim Shannon the MLA.
He is very motor home aware and see what the appeal options are.
If its a private firms ticket just ignore it.

I don't think kennel lane is private. I think the red Gestapo in north down are all b*******
We deliberately park Royal Mail vans on double yellows to annoy them and quote the 20 min. Concession O-)

Hi Flan Van you probably saw on motorhome craic we had the same problem in Lisburn, it's so annoying especially in these austere times when everyone is appealing to us to support the local economy, and then we are punished for a slight overhang into a parking space. I paid the fine wish now I hadn't I will be interested to see how you get on.

Thanks to all. I do have photos of the space I used as I didn't see the penalty notice envelope until I drove out onto the road. Emily actually approached the 2 x female wardens who were quite arrogant about it, no time to discuss the matter etc. I will try to contest this anyway & I will let you know what happens. John 🇧🇭 O-) :'(

John don't pay I would cause them as much hassle as possible. Who do they think they are these Traffic Wardens? I would do jail before I would pay it.

Disgraceful that the parking attendant wouldn't use a bit of common sense. People who hand out tickets in these circumstances are just interested in raising revenues/commission instead of regulating parking :(

A quick visit to the Newtownards Chronicle Offices a short distance away might also be a useful ploy if it was pointed out that motorhomers will just avoid the town and spend their money elsewhere.

They ARE using common sense. They are doing their job (unfortunately). They have a set of guidelines that they use as part of their work procedure. Its not their fault that a parked vehicle is bigger than the space provided. It is the "fault" of the driver for parking in an inappropriate space, and more importantly, its the FAULT of the town council for not providing lager spaces for oversized vehicles....

I often feel a bit sorry for parking attendants/wardens...... although some of them ARE pricks.

(oops did I say that out loud?)

BTW - No, I don't know any parking attendants personally, but I've seen a few of them taking a fair lash of abuse from time to time... I wouldn't want the job, that's for sure...

Yea I agree with Jack. I received a parking ticket 8 months ago for parking outside a shop in Derry/ Londonderry to collect a fireplace that was very heavy and I had no intention of carrying it any further than necessary. I returned to my van "not motorhome" the ticket was on the windscreen and the female warden was standing taking a photo of where the van was parked so I proceeded to remove the ticket from the windscreen and said to the warden I will not be paying this under any circumstances. Approx 3 weeks after the ticket issue I got a reminder that the ticket price was now £60 because it was not paid on time Once again I chose to ignore it and another letter followed some time later stating that the price had gone to £120 I ignored it as well and got another letter fining me a total of £138 in total and this will be the last correspondence entered into with me and if its not paid my van will be clamped on site whether it is parked legally or not. So I have not paid or am I going to pay and if im clamped I will cut it off myself
So if im not on the craic for a few months please come and visit me .

I had a good chat with a traffic warden last night and mentioned the ards ticket incident.

He informed me that appeals to DOE will go nowhere and the same is likely for talking to councils. He suggests local chamber of trade is the way to go. They are the traders from the area and do have a bit of say with local authority.

Best plan of action is to inform the chamber of trade there is no or insufficient parking for motorhomes in the area. Continue by highlighting the fact that Motorhome owners communicate via this forum and spread the word of unfriendly towns quickly. Inform them of the black list and the fact their town is now on it. Explain that this can be rectified by providing sufficient parking for motorhomers who would do some shopping in the town.

He suggested any correspondence be finished with the fact that the word spreads equally as fast about Motorhome friendly towns.

This is only one persons opinion but I thought is made a bit of sense.
