I have always been told it should be changed before 60,000 MILES or 5 years which ever comes first.
We had ours done last June as the van was 5 yeas old.

With motorhomes its an age thing more so than mileage, after all a lot of motoehomes stand for long periods without being even started. I changed mine in May again for peace of mind.

As previous posters have said, it's the age that matters. I got mine done on a 2003 2.8JTD for £185 by a local mechanic.

I think mine is a chain rather than belt so should last longer.
That's why I rely on a qualified mechanic for service.
I have driven diesel cars for years and regular service is the answer for trouble free driving.
About 20 years ago I blew the turbo on a MG diesel through neglect. It cost over£1000 at that time to repair all the damage.
Once bitten....

Get a quote first! We left ours in for a timing belt and a service last year before we went to France, it was 8 years old with 25000 miles, when we went to collect it we got a bill for over 800 euro, they fitted a new timing belt kit (I think a belt would have done due to the low mileage) a habitation test, changed the oil and filters and fitted 2 new brake cylinders.
