Yes, we use a cover, think it is a 'royal'. It is a generic one that was sized by length. Ours was half price at Downshire Camping some years ago.
It is a good fit sides and rear, but the front needs to be pulled tight laterally to fit the cab profile.
It is breathable (essential) and keeps the van bone dry. No damp or condensation between cover and van. More importantly it stops tree sap and bird droppings from marking the van. Easy to put on ground to scrub.
Easy to put on and take off, although I can get on my roof by the fixed ladder which makes life easier. The cover has a full height zip at each corner and one at the door.
No evidence of chaffing on roof or windows and the only problem was that the roof has side ridges and roof bars etc so there was a danger of sagging allowing water to gather, but I made a ridge pole (like an old fashioned tent) using timber blocks for height and plastic dowmspouting for the ridge pole. this allows the rain etc to run off easily.
