I'll bet the owner of the new campsite never thought there'd be such a reaction to his connivance.

I've seen other photos on the same Facebook page where it appears they started dumping smelly dredged material over by the old watch tower in Shanoon? Is it a ploy to make the area uninviting?

Dunmore Parking

called to Dunmore this evening, there is now a sign stating no parking for motorhomes and that there is a state of the art modern campervan parking at the golf course for 100 campervans. Went to the golf course, there were 2 campers and 1 caravan there. It is a very long walk.

John,
How did the Blue grass festival go? Two friends of ours and ourselves planned to go to it, but with this carry on I doubt if we will ever go there again, Well it was Dunmore East's loss and Belturbets gain.

we were all set to go but decided at the last minute not to support the campsite at this time, wildcamping isnot an option with the kids, glad we didnt go, couldnot have listed to their moaning with the distance involved. We are going to go and support the rally in Waterpark.

Has anyone had their email to the Tourist Office acknowledged yet? I've heard nothing from them which is very bad on their part.

Down by the beach, the town is a mess with some serious roadworks going on. Parking and traffic a disaster.

We went up to have a look at the new campsite. Pretty soul-less really. Nothing there to inspire me to stay.

Its a pity there seems to be only motorhomes in the site , so it looks like we wont get our wildcamping spot back

We stayed at the campsite over the weekend - not my choice, if that makes any difference! Was trying to work out where the wildcamping spot was, as it wasn't obvious to me - should've checked the threads for the photo's above. There did seem to be some one camper, down on the quays.

As for the site, it was better than I was expecting given some of the reveiws such as those linked too on this thread. The roadways and pitches were gravel, but nothing out of the ordinary in my experience. The only dusty bit was the alternative route in for motorhomes and campervans so you don't have to use the steep windy access road everyone was giving out about. That road looked like it was windened too, and although we weren't on it at night, it did appear to have lighting now. The children in our group (ranging from just turned 5 to just turned 8 ) had no issues walking down to the harbour or the beach. Our pitches were level, and had plenty of space between them. The ICCC had a rally on over the weekend in a field off the site, and my one complaint was that the toilet block didn't really cope with that extra footfall.

Notwithstanding the issues of shutting down the competition, the site was ok for Irish standards. They're all a rip off, but with young chaps they're going to be the option for us for the foreseeable. The site was that busy, I wonder will the owners actually get over their lack of confidence? If the wildcamping spot is even attractive anymore. Most campers, caravans and tents (of which there seemed to be a dedicated area) seemed to be there for the weekend.
