VISITORS to Portrush will soon be able to surf the web as well as the waves with free wifi being introduced on the town's beaches in the first project of its kind in Northern Ireland.
The coverage will also include the harbour area and the promenade beside the Arcadia.
The idea for extending wifi to the beaches was put forward by Portrush Regeneration Group, with funding secured from the Department for Social Development and the Tourist Board.
The two-year pilot project is due to go live next Wednesday.
One of the advantages offered to visitors in the area is that they can now get online without incurring roaming charges or by using the 3G network on their phone.
The wifi initiative was commissioned by Coleraine Borough Council.
Mayor of Coleraine David Harding said: "This is a major boost for Portrush, not only for members of the local community in Portrush, but also in terms of visitors.
"In order to surf the web when you arrive in Portrush, simply add your email address and your town of origin.
