Are YOU a Flasher ?

Hi all,

Thought that title would get you to look at this topic.

One of the things that I do on my travels is to flash my headlights when a large articulated truck or bus overtakes me (I tend to tootle along at 50mph both on or off the motorways).

As you know this is an unofficial signal that tells the truck driver that he is clear ahead of me and it is safe to return to the nearside lane in front of me.

I find it very unusual not to get an acknowledgement from the driver (usually a couple of flashes with his indicators).

What puzzles me though is I do not think I have ever received an acknowledgement from an Ulsterbus. Are they instructed not to reply or are they too self important??

Great to see the habit of motorhomers waving to each other is flourishing.

Davy

I'm a flasher :hide:

Although I find a lot of lorries don't bother flashing in a Motorhome, ok we are not as long but sometimes it's handy.

I flash too, but rarely get a flash back, I think it is a uk thing, southern drivers don't seem to know why you are flashing. I also flash the hazard warning lights when somebody lets me pass, then I usually get a flash back.

Do I flash? Nah

Don't flash lights very much either. There seems to be differing interpretations of what flashing lights mean.

I always wave to fellow motorhomers. The wave back is about 70 to 80 percent

I was driving the motorhome quite a lot for a few weeks and I always took the opportunity to allow faster traffic pass safely where I could. This seemed to be universally appreciated.

I was driving my car the other day and a dozy motorhome driver was holding things up and had opportunity to allow a few of us built up behind him past but he seemed to be completely unaware of what was going on behind him.

Some truck drivers are very good at letting cars past - others seem to not to care or even worse seem to be hell bent on not letting them past.

Rant over - sorry if I went off topic =)

I have found that French Lorry Drivers are much more appreciative and usually flag back at me.

Lorry drivers etc. have a job to do and I think it is reasonable to let them through at the first opportunity if you are holding them up, personally I find that on most occasions that I`m the one being held up.
