Hi to all.........was wondering if any of you have used the O2 credit card. Being able to put X amount on the card and know exactly your limit sounds useful. Would like to know it's limit regards who and where it's accepted ie, diesel pumps, supermarkets, restaurants etc. I know O2 will say it's the bees knees...........but in the real world does it do what it says on the tin ?????? . :bandit:

Hi all,

You dont say wether you want it for home or abroad. No knowledge of O2, just poor service with their mobile phone services.

Like Digger I use a Bank of Ireland Mastercard issued by The Post Office. I have preloaded it in the past without issue (and I checked with the card issuer first). It also has the advantage of being commision free in the EU.

If you are thinking of preloading a card for trips abroad, I use one issued by www.mytravelcash.com It is free and has no monthly fee, earns cashback, gives free withdrawals at ATMs, widely accepted, but not recommended for car hire or hotel prebooking.

The biggest advantage that I carry one for is that it spreads my risk when travelling. I then have access to more than one card, and if stolen it limits my potential losses without reducing my accessibility to money.

I am walking the Camino at the end of august and simply don't want to carry cash. I have never had a credit card and I would starve before I would give any bank my buisness. I simply want a convenient way to have some dosh without all the hassle of applying to banks , lodging money signing forms etc etc. ......and was just wondering if anyone had used the O2 card and had any problems with it at restaurants ....shops .....hostels and so on . ^_^

I thought all cards were connected to a bank, even cards with a name likeO2 must be underwritten by a financial backer

If I want a credit/visa or any type of card connected to a bank I must have an account with them. <_< . I'm told that you just go with cash in hand and it's put on the o2 card and you use it like any other card without the hassle..............or maybe not 🇧🇭

That is the principle to it, but there can be fees to put money on and withdraw etc, if you go to money saving expert dot com they offer free unbiased info on stuff like that and will usually have a recommendation as to which is the best for your needs

Hi since I already have credit cards and a debit card I wouldn't need an O2 prepaid card.

However I toyed with idea of getting one to use for internet shopping transactions or for using in any buying transaction where you might have doubts about your card details being stolen or skimmed. If one of these cards was stolen your your maximum exposure would be the money that you prepaid.
That was the theory.

But when I looked at the transaction charges for recharging the card I thought they were a bit steep.

I think these cards must be aimed at people who do 99.8% of their spending with cash and want a card to do the occasional card transaction over the phone or perhaps parents give one of these to their teenage children and again the prepaid amount limits the possibility of getting a nasty surprise when a statement shows up.

But in answer to your question I think (not sure) that they are a VISA card that only have credit or spending power up to what you have prepaid. (They have an O2 brand)

I think you can probably use them any place in the world where you can use a VISA card.

Good luck with the walk
