Just checked the list of known spots for wild camping, didn't see anything for Westport. Heading over the west tomorrow morning (8th July 2013) early, first stop Westport.....anyone any information as to where we can stopover for one night tomorrow night? Is Westport Quay a no go area for Motorhomes?

Hi Tom and Theresa,I have personally stayed many nites over the last 10 years or so at quay at all times of the year never any problems Garda Patrol throughout the nite, stay on road beside lake or down towards end of quay beside Boat club building and Tourist Office and Westport Museum which has a very good Informative tour for a small price.Water taps available on quay and at car park beside lake . You do get the odd boy racer out but usually on weekend nights but just a bit of noise nothing more.Nice place, if you've time head to Mulranny and then Achill Island and look for Keem Bay at the end of the road nicest Beach in Ireland . Enjoy thanks Barry.

Thanks Barry, have stayed at the Quay a number of years ago but thought it had since banned Motorhomes. Lovely place, did the museum previously. Also heading to Achill, a favourite place especially when the weather is good. Parking up in hard stones on beach at keel where the surfers are is just spectacular.

Hi Tom and Theresa,
this might be a late answer to you question but it may aid you in the future
We were in westport a few months ago and asked a garda where we should park overnight. He said right outside the garda station. Great location....

We are just back from achill and stayed on keel beach.... Go towards seafront pass public toilet, pass sandy banks campsite and go left. Go about 200/300meters..... there were 3 other motorhomes there too....great location right at the edge of the beach.

Drove back through Westport and seen more motorhomes outside the garda station too...
