New owner Seeking Advice`

Hi Folks,
I have just closed a deal on a campervan and will be picking it up during the week when I have insurance etc sorted.
Next weekend will be our first trip out and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a suitable location.
We are a family of 4 with with a 7yr and 4yr old so cycling on main roads is not an option just yet. Ideally we are looking for a site that is located within walking distance of a town (or pub) and is suitable for children. We are located in cork and would really only like to drive for about 2 hours for our first trip.
My in-laws have a mobile on wavecrest campsite in Catherdaniel and i have been there many times but would prefer to go somewhere new and differant with more activities for kids and and closer to shops pubs etc..
I would welcome all of your comments and suggestions - and am looking forward to exploring the Irish campsites.
Best Regards to all.
Brian

Brian, You are probably better off subcribing to the forum and you will have access to all previous posts where most sites have been discussed in depth. Enjoy your Motorhome and keep the questions coming

Try Treegrove in Kilkenny.
Nice site close to town. After a short walk you have the option to cycle along the river path or in the castle grounds.

Great place

Welcome to the craic Brian...

You could also try the Flesk campsite in Killarney town? There are some lovely cycle treks around the Killarney national park (ross castle/Knockreer) where the cycle paths are well off road and safe for younger kids who may still be a bit wobbly on 2 wheels.

Bear in mind there is also a spot by Ross castle in Killarney where you'd often see many motorhomes parked overnight... for free.... (Only drawback here is it's not close to a pub)

Thanks Mark and Kevin,
We are booked into a site in skib (can't remember site name) but it is meant to be good for kids and less than 10min from town.
First time in campervan so we will stay close to home .
Will have to sort out a tow bar I think so
I can bring the bike on future trips .
I do want to go to Kilkenny as I only ever passed through and it does look nice ..
Thanks again for the replies guys
Regards
Brian

Treegrove is a good location. Not much on site for children, but our then 3 and 4 year old managed the walk into the town OK. The park behind the castle is a great space, and has a good playground.

Hi Brian,

Myself and my wife recently bought a motorhome, we have two kidsalso. So far this year we have only been to two parks, still nervous about wildcamping. One of the parks was glen of aherlow, nice site but not much for the kids, owners were lovely and the place was well kept. Some nice forest walks. We ventured a little further last friday and saturday to dunmore east in co.waterford. The campsite there was lovely, great facilities and spotless, close to the village, they have a 1 km private road up to the campsite that we found great for the kids on their bikes. I posted a topic on the campsite review that I will get some pictures onto when I get my head together. There web address is www.dunmoreholiday.ie. The staff/owners were very nice people 8-) Can't wait to hit the road again

they have a 1 km private road up to the campsite ?? It is a bit outside of town so! Is there any shortcut? Is there street lighting up to the site if you were walking back from Town at night?
