gas lite question

Hi

A gas question, hoping someone can help. Does anyone in Southern Ireland use a Southern Calor lite patio gas, in a motorhome with a fixed regulator in the gas locker and if so what kind of connection (pigtail) do you use.
My locker is small so I cannot use a large cylinder and need a 6kg but can't use the usual regulator to connect as I already have one on the wall. Also I thought the patio gas is propane but a gas guy told me its a mix of propane and butane??. I have no cylinders and don't want to buy without checking it will work first.

Thanks

Anne

Hi Anne. Pigtails for cylinder propane calor gas are all the same whether they are 6kg or 13kg so if you are using a propane cylinder your pigtail will be ok. Hope this helps. Willie.

Hi Willie
I went to Woodies today and examined a patio lite 6kg bottle. It uses a clip on reg with a small button like bit in it (sorry, not very technical) My pigtail is a screw on one but the bottle top has no thread to screw onto.

It looks like the patio gas cylinder is going to be no use to you for that, however I am a calor gas agent in the North and the 6kg light has the same fitting on the top as any other propane cylinder. It just must be the patio gas that is different. I will take a look tomorrow at the patio gas cylinders at the Calor depot here and see whats, what and get back to you.

Thanks so much.
I've been trying to sort this for a while. I bought a van set up for gas but it was never used and had no cylinders or cooker. i got the gas system checked and a screw on pigtail was added but this is for large propane bottles which wont fit in my locker. I can't get 6kg or 3.9 kg bottles in the South so patio lite gas is my only propane option. Id really like a 6kg lite & 3.9 kg bottle as i think thats what would have been supplied with the camper, its a UK model, but I would have to drive to the North to get them, which I may do yet. Long drive, also I think the connector would be different again . 🇧🇭 I plan on going to Scotland frequently, are the same bottles used in N Ireland and Scotland ?

I have a new hob and grill and a van ready to go but no gas! I'm mad to go too so would be very grateful for a solution.

Yea the gas bottles are the same fittings all over the UK. We have the small 5kg bottles to connect to the propane pigtails as well. If your planning a run out sometime, you could give me a shout and I will get you sorted out. There is a lovely Motorhome/Caravan park only a few miles from my workshop where you could stay and view our scenery for a few days.

Its a pity you are so far away, that would be a perfect solution. Do you sell the pigtail and could you post one to me? I'll be in Dublin at the weekend and could propably drive over the border to a calor or camping shop in Newry to get bottles. Its probably easier to get cocaine than propane :fgrin:

Thats great. i got your number from your website and I'll phone tomorrow to order the pigtail. I can then pick up bottles in Newry next weekend, I presume they are easy enough to get, or if not I'll get them in Scotland.

Thanks for the help.
