Not picking up the channels anymore!

Until last week we hadn't been out in the motor home camping for more than a year.

So while out during the week we turned on the TV for a look. At first I was surprised that it wouldn't pick up any channel - then I remembered that TV has gone digital we now live in the age of Saorview.

I am assuming that our TV is not digital and will need to replace it.

We have a Status 530 aerial installed. Can anyone tell me if the Status 530 picks up the Saroview channels or do I need to replace the aerial too?

Also any recommendations for a Saorview approved, 12 v / 230v TV

Many thanks :-)

No such thing as a digital Tv or a digital Aerial.

Some Aerials are better than others - what you have should be great.

So called digital TV's have an encoder box built into them which converts digital to analogue.

Saorview is mpeg4, so any mpeg4 TV will work in the South and also the North as it is backwards compatible with the UK which is mpeg2

I just bought a Walker TV from Hagans which is Mpeg4 and a very very good tv.

Thanks Admin. That clarifies things. I can use my existing aerial and just replace the TV with a mpeg4 TV.
Hagans is not close to where I live but I will bear it is mind if I can't get something suitable closer by.

You could also get a Mepg4 digital box to connect to your existing TV - but more wires and clutter :)

Lidl sell a 22inch mpeg4 occasionally for £109. Maybe Aldi too.

What's the picture like? have seen a few lately and unless you are head on to the screen, it's crap. The walker is as good if not better than an Avtex.

Dont expect to get reception everywhere the digital signal is not great for mobile receivers like ourselves its great when you get it, but you dont get it everywhere .You may want to look into getting a portable Sat. dish if you want tv everywhere you go including G.B. and France etc........

Hi eirebus do you have the name / model of a good portable satellite dish that would fit the bill? Thanks

Thanks eirbus and fat controller. The Maplins £99.99 kit seems like a good product or at least good enough for what I want.

I am going away touring for a week so we will look into ordering one in Maplins in Derry when I get home, unless Aldi / Lidl bring them back into stock in the meantime

Cheers

That's the one we have. I bought mine in Maplins a couple of years back at their end of season sale. I didn't want one, but for what I paid, I couldn't resist (impulse buy ).

Great piece of kit. Very easy to set up and it'll give you around 15 decent FTA channels.

If you don't have one already, I'd recommend you get a satellite finder for tuning in your dish. It's important this little dish is set to the satellite as accurately as possible. If not, even a medium rain shower can effect the signal.
