hints and tips for a ROI Newbie

hi, as per my posting in Introductions, we have a 6m motorhome, small dog and are pretty self contained so like the concept of aires/wildcamping but also stopover on official sites. We are planning a week's touring in late July/August, no set dates yet so welcome advice on:

best time to come in that time period

days to avoid in specific locations due to big events reducing availability of stopovers/pitches

driving in a widish vehicle on narrow lanes - how practical is it to travel through the most beautiful/intersting areas without suffering a nervous breakdown and neck ache from reversing due to oncoming vehicles in tight spaces?

best travel guide

Must sees, other than the obvious ones

.... sure i will think of more but that will do for a start!

Hi Gil and welcome to the Craic.

You will receive many answers to your questions form the members here.
We have members from all across Ireland so you will get local info as well as tourist info.

You mention ROI but i would suggest trying the North too. There are many places worth seeing up here too.
Some of the areas which I would suggest as worth looking at are:

Dingle peninsula in Co. Kerry
Wicklow mountains
North Antrim coast
Fermanagh lake lands
Shannon waterways

There are now Aires in the following places

Donaghadee Co. Down
Broughshane Co. Antrim
Buncrana Co. Donegal
Annalong. Co. Down
Middleton Co. Cork
Askeaton Co. Limerick.

Keep us posted on your dates as there will probably be a few of us near where you plan to be.

Enjoy your trip

Thanks for pointing that out. I should have said Buncrana and not Bundoran.
I have corrected my original post.

Must pay more attention in future.

The Buncrana Aire is excellent as we have stayed there. Convenient to the town and all it's services and we were made very welcome there and had a super two nights. Highly recommend the Aire and the town.

No.
I said Bundoran but once GandG rightly corrected me I amended my first post as mentioned in my second post.

I should also have mentioned, if you are members of the national trust you will receive £10 off per night at the campsite at castle ward. Pattersons spade mill and springhill are two other national trust locations where you can use the car park overnight.

Hi all, the day is here. .... Crossing to Rosslaire this afternoon, no bookings made on any official sites but hoping to combine paid for and free. We don't land till around 6.00 pm so intend to stop somewhere fairly local tonight but are open minded But may well play it safe with an official site tonight. Any ideas for somewhere scenic/not too organised/crowded/non clubhousey?
