I saw that on Sunday when I was there at the ford show, you couldn't move for both Motorhomes and vans with trailers. Once the half dozen spaces are full there really is nowhere else for Motorhomes to park as all the other car parks have height barriers on them. The rate at which the work is being done also makes me wonder if it will be finished before the airshow at the end of August as its just been primarily white lines on an existing car park.

I haven't visited it John but Ally tells me there appears to be 10 Motorhome bays. He also mentioned the hatched area is beside each bay almost like an awning space.
I suppose we will need to see if there are specific guidelines come out for this one n

I would say its not an awning space but some sort of health and safety euro law about safe distance between the vans, there were so many crammed in on Sunday that it appeared like six spaces.

I found it great, undecided over the boycott Portrush idea as they have made an effort in putting the Aire in and it seems like it will be a good facility. They do need "Motorhomes Only" on the entrance to it as when we were there coaches and lorries were parking in it despite having their own area.

I suppose the biggest problem it is 10 spaces where as Ramore head there could of been 30 vans.

can you imagine what it will be like at say the NW weekend or Airshow weekend, with the remaining carparks having height barriers it should have been bigger, but at least its something.

In the middle of the bus and lorry park and on the slopeing part of the carpark. If you sleep with your head up the hill it will make it very easy to get out of bed :D

Exactly nth you've got it in 1. What a stupid place to put an Aire. Certainly you would not find a French village/town putting their Aire in such a stupid place. Mothorhomers stay Way from Portrush is my answer to it.

Out of the 10 spaces provided not one can be used without ramps. The only up-side is each M'H has the space to erect an awning.

Let me make a suggestion to Coleraine council,if you are serious about Motorhomes why not make an Aires at east strand carpark off Causeway Street where it is level ground? ok you would have to remove that stupid height barrier.

O i forgot the purpose of that was to keep anyone other than a car user out.

People who are not welcome or wanted will always find another place to spend their time and money

THE CHOICE IS YOURS

the pits area is used only 2 weeks a year and has limited facilities.
surely the motorcycle club and council could make a bit of money letting mhomes use them, fiver a night and all the pitches would be full

Drove past the Portrush Aires last night and it was very busy,1 motorhome about 6 minibuses and every coach and Bus that headed towards that direction on Saturday.
At least Coleraine Council will be able to say that it is a very busy Aires.

had a great weekend on north coast.
thanks to gerry at donagheys for friday nights hospitality.

i drove by the new aire at portrush and it was chocablock with coaches and buses, not a hope of getting a mhome in there when its busy with holiday coaches. will be ok on a wet november when there are no coaches providing you invest in several sets of levelling blocks.

i drove on to my usual spot on the coast and spent my money there.

Good for you Bob let's all do the same. I would not spend a penny in Portrush because they don't want us. I will go and spend my money where we are welcome. Portrush would have been better to have said bluntly we don't want motor homers. Anyway its a useless place anyway. Motorhomers stay away from it.

Portrush Aires almost ready, all two of them.
£1.25 Tokens from the two local filling stations gives you 1Kw hr of elect or 100 lte of water + toilet and grey water emptying points.
The parking meter tickets for the other 10 spaces are £0.50 per hr. max stay 72 hrs.
Anybody want to pay this ????????

£12 per day, hmmm didn't think they were introducing a charge to park but only for amenities. I am sure a marker on the road saying "Motorhomes Only" if they are worried about other vehicles using it and £5 per 24 hours would be so much better, if they really need to introduce a charge. Isn't that roughly what they charge in France?

I am sure it will be full a lot of the times though as some people feel the need to visit Portrush and they have made it impossible to park at Ramore.

Maybe the charge is to help pay for the public money they wasted putting in height barriers and kerbs at Ramore.

Yes was up there last week and saw the new Aire, it's only a token gesture, not big enough and far too expensive! The only people who will be pleased about this Aire are the campsite owners as they are the ones who have won, they managed to get Ramore Head closed and the alternative is a small expensive Aire.

I haven't visited the Portrush Aire myself but it does seem to have the conversation going here.

Perhaps the council have made a token jesture to test the water.

If it isn't used they will be in a position to announce there is a lack of interest and therefore no requirement for a better or more suitable Aire.

If it is used maybe more will be developed.

I would imagine that it will be used providing motorhome owners are somehow made aware of its existence. Word of mouth is usually the best (or worse) way to pass information in the motorhome world and the current word about Portrush seems to be poor.

I see from the motorhome association website that they had involvement in Portrush and Cobh. Recent posts on this forum have praised the aire provided by the council in Cobh so can we assume that Portrush council have not taken on board the advise given.

How can one council get it so right and another so wrong?

Again I must stress that I have yet to visit the Aire in Portrush.

The more Aires the better as far as I am concerned and while there is someone advising local authorities it can only get better.

Craic'ers Dave & Naomi from Kildare staying at the Aire in Portrush today and spending money. They managed to get a spot but most of the other spots are full of coaches and cars.

To Coleraine Council, all it needs is a MOTORHOMES ONLY sign or painted on the ground at the entrance.

Hi all ,
In portrush since last Fri, at iccc rally in the school across from the Aires, Aires seems to small for the amount of mh in the aera, not many using Aires, they seem to park allover, in front of b and bs, guesthouses, ect, wheels up on paths, a few seem to have no regard for the general public, I can't see how this problem can be solved. As when the Aires is finnished the council will stop parking mh on the street, and Aires is to small
