This is a nice area too.
We haven't been for a few years. Maybe worth returning to.

Great news. Wonder will Motorhomes get 1 French style Aire for each of the 32 counties. :D 8-)
Wishful thinking and keep dreaming !

Aires through Ireland

We will need more than 23 Aires to be fair to everyone as Co Antrim has 4 now! To be realistic though I have to agree that is is unlikely that every County will ever have an Aires, as even in France there are areas that have no Aires. Still pre 2003 there were none, so dreams can come true! The more we use them the more we are likely to get as others see the potential.

I had a meeting over in Midleton earlier today, so I dropped in to have a look at the MH parking area...

Some folks not quite "getting it" yet... :(

11 spaces in total.

The spaces are a little tight @ 7.5ft X 15ft so it'd appear these are standard car spaces. There is a shrub bed behind but it only offers a foot or two of overhang for longer vehicles.

Grey water disposal:

Over by the automatic toilet, there is a water point. Unfortunately it doesnt have a fitting to connect your hose filler to...

Appears to be a well lit carpark with ample overhead sodium lights.

Retail units surround the parking area. Quite a few still vacant.

Recycling bins right next to the MH parking bays...

Still it is a start, campers should ensure they make use of them as much as possible and maybe the Midleton council will increase the size of the pitches so that Motorhomes / Campers will have adequate room to park. Well done Midleton Town Council.

we were in cobh last week and had a look in middleton (but didn't think of taking photos), as can be seen in the photos above all the bays were taken by cars except one,
and the toilet is out of order.... (for 2 months now i have been told)

i tried to reverse into the one bay with the bikes on the back and i was 3 foot sticking out the front, so needless to say we took off again,

id say all it would take to keep cars out of the bays in middleton is a motorhome written on the ground, similar to the disabled bays,

we were more content in cobh as it had more vans for company and it just felt safer :police:

im hoping other councils take note and follow suite,

Have been in Midleton, it is an ordinary car park during the day but once 6 pm comes it is wide open for motorhomes to settle in for the night! No problem with size length of motorhome when car park empty! Right beside the Jamieson Distillery, so perfect for the tour, if you partake of a few 'samples' then you have no need to move off! Only 1 mins walk from Main Street and all the shops and restaurants! Suggestion would be to arrive after 6 pm, stay overnight, do tour of distillery next day then stay overnight again if you sample a few whiskies! Move on to Cobh next day!

I counted 11 spaces pat, but you wouldn't fit 11 average sized motorhomes there. If you did, you wouldn't be able to access the side door on the MH!
Still, it's a great location and very good to see Midleton town council provide a dedicated area for motorhomes! Well done to them indeed. Yes there were a fair few cars parked in the MH area. Hopefully the next step for that area will be to change the painted lines to 10ft x 20ft bays for motorhomes and make it more obvious to car drivers that the area isn't for parking cars!

It's true what Aideen says, there are plenty more car parking bays in the rest of the car park if you don't have room to park in the dedicated MH parking area... but then you may upset the locals if you do that... I guess if you're in and out before it gets busy in the car park, you'd be fine.

This is not perfect but a good starting point. I just keep wondering are the councils taking bad advice or are they refusing to accept the advice given. There does not seem to be an Aire in Ireland yet which motorhomers are totally happy with. I do understand it is impossible to keep everyone happy all of the time. I am also confused why they have needed to design new signs. Why not use the signs which are already recognised by most of us? Does each country need to come up with a new sign for each option required? This seems strange to me.

Never even thought of a drain being there, but then I have not used Aire's anywhere else other than Ireland. I did wonder what I was meant to do with waste water when I visited.

Midletown Council requests that toilet cassettes are to be emptied in the 'Superloo' not at the grey water dump point. And don't forget the first class farmers market at The Fair Green every Saturday morning, it's like a real bit of France.

Hi Ally I thought we were requested NOT to use either the Super Loo or the GREY WATER DISPOSAL ( common sense ) for the Grey Water Outlet.

That was posted on the "Save the Shanoon" facebook page by a member of the MA, so I assume it to be correct.
