Over the bank holiday weekend I did not manage to get to Garrykennedy on Lough Derg, one of my favourite places. However, it is probably just as well as I hear it was hectic there. A friend who was there did mention the numbers of motorhomes which were there and its great to see it used. Pity someone from the local authority wasn't there to observe the potential for motorhomers if a proper parking area, serviced with EHU and water was provided. Power points are already down by the new jetty and showers and toilets are also there.
Now for the gripe!! I always park either nose in or tail in to the lake near the slipway. This takes up only one parking space. Apparently there were 4 vans parked side on to the lake from the slipway taking up most if not all of the parking spaces near the lake. Others had apparently parked in across the disabled bays. This is a cause of frustration for locals who regularly use this beautiful location. I would ask that motorhomers consider taking up as little space as possible and certainly do NOT block disabled spaces.
Earlier this year I observed one motorhomer empty his grey waste while in a marked parking bay just as he departed so I did not get a chance to take issue with him about such a practice.
