Does that mean one can park overnight for free still? Hope to go down in 10 days time for a meeting in Dublin. It's hand to get the Dart into the city.
At the weekend I was going to stop at Howth on my travels, but changed my mind as I thought it would be packed due to the holiday weekend, so went on down to Greystones and there were only two others there. It is also handy for the dart into Dublin with the station being about a 2 minute walk away.

Exactly Chausson I agree with you. It's suits me coming from Antrim (North) but someone coming from Wexford would be better with somewhere around Bray. I've used Howth a number of time in the past for early morning meetings in the centre of Dublein and its been great. I would go down the night before and have a meal and a few drinks in a local Resturant and of to the meeting next morning using the Dart. Why don't folk put their location on?

It would be interesting to know the amount of money those25 vans contributed to the local economy. I would guess its quite a sum.

I think the local businesses better wake up an realise how much we who have motorhomes contribute to the local community. We went to Donaghadee Aire a few weeks ago and when I added it up between going to Pier 36 for a meal which was out of this world, we spend almost £300 over the week end. Other place who do not welcome us p,ease take note. We will spend our hard earned cash where we are welcomed and wanted.
Thinking of heading to Howth Harbour and maybe staying a couple of days - just wondering if there is any charge for overnight parking that anyone knows and also are you limited to how many nights you can stay?

I don't think a charge has been introduced yet. No limit on staying as far as I am aware but obviously within reason.
The enemy and I went down to Howth a few weeks ago 3 days free, fish suppers to die for, but was reading on another fourm that someone was asking for money for the harbour master, Don't know if this true
On our way to the boat we stayed overnight on the 3rd July , with 12 other vans from all over the world and no one approached us for money . We had the oysters mussels and a fish supper my mouth is watering just thinking about it . Can't wait to visit again we love this area Emily& John

Yeah the donation thing is all above board,it just seemed a bit strange at the time..
The money is a donation to the harbourmaster who then can give to RNLI or whoever he wishes..
Steven..
More than happy to make donation to stay in this lovely spot money goes to a good cause RLNI better than 30 euro for over priced campsite Some people happy to take everything for nothing

As much as anybody I like somethings for nothing, but I would be concerned about scammers lining their own pockets. If someone came to my home collecting for cancer, special needs, dog hostels, etc. I would ask for proof of charity registration before giving a donation. No offence intended to new poster old-man-camper, but this issue of strangers asking for donations at Howth has been raised in other topics at Howth. If the collectors can demonstrate and can be identified as 'real' I would absolutely have no hesitation in donating to RNLI.

Hi, just to clarify- I have never been asked for donation-
Questions please:-
who asked for the donation?
Did they call to the campers?
is there a donation box in the Harbour Masters Office, or does anybody know?
Just wondering, and no problem donating to say RNLI.
I have no problem donating as lng as it is legit!
( P.S.-I donated to RossesPoint RNLI about two weeks ago. Coincidentally, that station was on the news last week as they rescued several children on a sailing trip in Sligo Bay.
Really its an individuals choice if they hand over the cash we have been wild camping for a few years now in many different countries and have never been asked to make a donation but if my feeling is that its a genuine approach and its a known gesture of goodwill among motorhomers then I would have no reservations.
No right or wrong answer on this really its down to yourself how and you handle the situation

Myself and missus went to Howth just for the night, lastnight. There were 12-15 campers there.
