Hi,
I use a Giffgaff data sim for £5 you get 500 mb to be used in a month or £7.50 for 1GB as this is only for use in NI & GB I was wondering if anyone from ROI could advise if any similar products are available South of the Border. I use the sim in a tablet and if could be used in ROI it would be very handy for finding wild camping spots on google maps.

I am in the same position as yourself and looking what I can use in Ireland
Not wishing to take any credit for this reply,
There is a post on Toggle Mobile (sorry don't know how to connect) further down on the form that would appear to fit the bill and is about the same cost but usable in Europe
Has any body used it yet

You must get it in the south and its a package called just like home or something like that, but all the 3 shops in the north dont offer it. I am not sure if we can just walk in and get it without a southern address.

Ahh - so I just found out... :D

[Amit] Hello Ally, how are you doing today?
[Visitor] I'm fine
[Amit] That's nice. So how may I help you today?
[Visitor] I want a Data SIM that can be used in the UK and Ireland for my tablet, I have been hearing that THREE do one where there is no extra charges for roaming?
[Amit] I'll be glad to assist you today with the required information and thank you for showing interest in us.
[Amit] I need to firstly know if your Tablet is unlocked and 3G compatible?
[Visitor] It is.
[Amit] Great! We do have Euro Internet Pass service.
[Amit] I'll brief you about the same.
[Amit] May I know if you wish to use your tablet in the UK as well as Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland which is already a part of UK?
[Visitor] I live in NI and wish to use it also in ROI
[Amit] The inclusive monthly allowance can be used any where in the UK including Northern Ireland however if you wish to use your tablet in the ROI then you need to order a special service which is know as Euro Internet Pass.
[Amit] However this service is only available only for Pay monthly voice customers (on your phones) and can't be used for broadband or tablets.
[Amit] So are you already with Three on a phone contract?
[Visitor] No
[Amit] If that's the case then you need to order a new mobile broadband Sim Only package for your Tablet.
[Amit] You can use your inclusive internet broadband allowance only when you're in the UK and Northern Ireland.
[Amit] In case if you wish to use your same Tablet in ROI then you'll be charged as per International data roaming charges.
[Amit] Are you still with me, if yes, please reply?
[Visitor] I am
[Amit] So what have you finally decided?
[Amit] You'll be charged 69.6p per MB if you use your Three mobile broadband services in ROI.
[Visitor] Not what I want, I have heard reports that THREE do a SIM where they do not charge roaming for internet only. But as that is not the case then I do not wish to proceed. Thanks

Perhaps someone close to a Three shop in the South could find out how easy it is to get the "Just Like Home" data SIM, maybe on PAYG? Do we need a Southern address etc.

Please?:)

The 3 network did have an agreement at one time where you used your inclusive bundle in ROI provided you were on the southern 3 network.

I am quite sure I read somewhere that it was no longer available.

Mark is right. I just had a chat with a lad in the local Three store and he confirmed that there was an agreement one time, but it is no longer available. He said ye'd have to talk to your own service provider in regards to using your device for roaming outside the UK network.

He did mention y'all could buy a Southern prepay data sim for your device but ONLY if your device is unlocked...

Hi,check www.three.ie. click on plans, click on 3 like home roaming , all information on 3 data sim for use in Eire, UK , italy,Austria,Denmark,Sweden, hong kong, you must set your roaming to three
In each particular country as they don't connect automatically, for example when I travel to Northern Ireland I select 3 UK. All above countries where three3 is based are each the same charges
As what is charged in Southern Ireland, I have this for 3 years now and each year another country
Is added, hopefully France is next, I have just checked the 3 web site and for some reason it says anyone who signed up by end of April 2013 can avail of this, regards

Just had a quick look at the holidayphone site, on the France page it states £15 for 3 days anyone know if this is 3 consecutive days? It'd be really useful if it wasn't, that way you could use it once a week for 3 weeks.

Check the Carrefour web sites, we had a dongle from them in Spain which was 1 euro a day for 500mb download and it operated on the orange network. It only worked in Spain even though they are across Europe, but you could have different sims for different countries

It seems to be 3 days only for the French, although the Irish SIM last 30 days.

Thinking............. Bad idea I know :-/

Might get a Three.co.uk MiFi contract and then buy a SIM only on PAYG from Three.ie - Southern SIM should work in the MiFi.

Why not just get both on payg. You can get a mifi preloaded with data which lasts about 12 months for about £80

3 Network

 ·
Posted: 27.09.2013  ·  #21
Evening folks

I realise this post is relatively old, but just to pass on a little information, I received this message from the 3 Network (UK) earlier this month:

"Hello
Now you can use your UK plan for free in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Republic of Ireland and Sweden.

Great news. As a Three customer you can now use your current UK plan in seven other countries around the world with Feel At Home. So you can call and text the UK and get online, just like you would at home. And it won’t cost you a penny more.

You can chat to your family, text your friends, post gloaty status updates and share your holiday snaps whenever you like, with no more worrying about extra charges on your bill.

You don’t need to do a thing. It all happens automatically as soon as you arrive. Just wait for your phone to pick up any local mobile network and then you’re good to go."

So it appears you are now able to use the 3 Network (UK) in the Republic of Ireland at the same cost as if you were in the UK.

HTH
