Council/County/Area Blacklist

1. Motorhomers have no need for all facilities at a campsite.

2. Motorhomers will never stay in a hotel, if there is no parking in that area they will go elsewhere. But they WILL eat & drink in a hotel if the hotel provides parking.

3. Motorhomers spend money wherever they visit, on food, diesel, supermarkets, off-licence, gifts etc

4. Campsite owners seem to be in it for their own gain, they should help councils by providing cheap overnight stops for Motorhomers with no facilities other than fresh water and waste emptying, why not get some money from Motorhomers instead of none? basic business principal.

5. Motorhomers will avoid your area if they cannot park, leading of course to lost revenue for local business's.

6. Motorhomers need very little amenities, we are not caravanners, we do not need electric, we do not need two spaces, we do not need awnings, we do not need tables and chairs, we are self contained.

7. What we do need is a water tap and access to a sewer - simple as that, not a fancy French style system, very little money needs to be spent, by providing these simple amenities YOUR town will be visited time and time again by local motorhome owners & tourists from other countries

Places to avoid until they provide facilities and in some instances remove height barriers for Motorhomers:

1. Coleraine Borough Council district - especially Portrush
2. County Roscommon
3. County Clare
4. Derry/Londonderry City
5. Bundoran
6. Dunmore East
7. Newtownards
8. Waterford
9. Moyle District Council
10. Galway

If you know of other unwelcoming Councils, Counties and towns please post a reply in here and we will add them. Also if you know of any area that should NOT be on the list please make us aware.

If you are a Council representative and would like more details on how to welcome Motorhomers to spend money in your area, please contact us.

If you are a Campsite owner and would like to know how you could make more money from Motorhomers instead of nothing from the most of them, then please contact us.

Waterford City has not one parking Area for Campers / Motorhomes, have stopped going there altogether which is a pity it has a lovely City Centre to walk and shop in. The Wife loves it but we refuse to spend our Euros anymore in places that do not want our custom. Their loss.

Have you considered dropping them an email jimbob? Maybe they can advise where you could park? I know the car parking area by the quay is a disaster even for cars. Even if they removed the height barriers, it'd be a challenge for a large vehicle in there...

Problems at Port Arthur Beach in Gweedore Recently.
http://www.donegaldaily.com/20…ping-area/
For Anyone who can't open the Link
A Donegal community is up in arms after visitors treated a local camping area like a dump site.

For many years a common area near Port Arthur Beach in Gaoth Dobhair has been used as an unofficial camping area.

People with caravans and campervans and tents have been using the commonage in the summer months.

However in recent weeks the area has suffered from illegal dumping with human waste and even portable toilets being dumped in a nearby quarry.

Now a meeting of local residents has been called for Tuesday next at 8pm at the Gweedore Utd FC Clubhouse.

Some fed-up locals are now calling for a ban on camping in the area because of the littering.

“This just can’t go on. The place has been left like a pig-sty.

“This is not an official camp site but a lot of people don’t mind it as long as it is kept clean.

“Something has to be done or we will have to stop the camping on it altogether,” said one annoyed local.

That is such a pity, again a great place will be not an option because of the stupid actions of some!
Perhaps they might consider putting in some services but it probably wouldn't make any difference to those who already cause the problem as they won't avail of the services provided if there is a charge.

Some people have been using it for 35-40 years. It's just a pity that the Actions of a Few have Spoiled it for Everyone else. 🇧🇭

Saddened to hear about the dumping of rubbish and toilet effluent at port Arthur ,I have been using this site for many years now and since last year have noticed a rise in campers using and abusing this beautiful spot, last year a trampoline was even discarded by campers.I counted thirty two campers on one weekend in July enjoying the area,It will be a great loss not to be able to park up here in future just because of the mindlessness of a few. :(

I am angry with the few who abuse these facilities but I wonder legally if it has been used for so long can they just stop it overnight? I don't think so but stand to be corrected.

Well Jack, the same thing happened nearby over at the golf club at magheragallan the whole place was fenced off during the winter because caravan owners never returned for their caravans leaving a mess for the council to clean up.That area had been used for camping for nearly forty years.

Petie legally if the public have been using it for years as far as I know if it's challenged in the Courts they can't do it. It would take a group or groups or an individual with money to contest it.

Yeah that's the sad thing about it. How do we deal with those who abuse the situation?

I must admit if I saw someone then I would take their reg and report them to the local authorities.
I don't see why a few should ruin it for the rest of us. I think we have a collective responsibility to educate and inform our fellow MH's of the rules. And have a zero tolerance for those who ruin it for everyone else.

That's the idea Shive and I would do exactly the same. There's no point in moaning if we are not prepared to challenge and report them.

Listening to that it seems like a knee jerk reaction by a few over a problem that could of been rectified quite easily.

Coleraine Borough Council (from 1.4.15 Causeway Coast and Glens District Council taking in Limavady, Coleraine,Ballymoney and Moyle Councils) has an Aires at Portrush beside the Dunluce Centre with fresh water and disposable facilities. Check out www.northcoastni.com to see whats on in the area

North Coast Cruiser the Aire at Portrush is just an excuse for an Aire really. I would not dream of going near it to be honest.
