Hi Soprano. Welcome to the craic.
A household electric shower is normally 8kw - 10kw which is between 32 and 40 amps. This is substantially more than electric hook ups which range from 6 -16 amp supply. To run this off a generator would require a substantial generator possibly 12 kW which is usually only used in big American rv.s. And probably cost 4k +. Most motor homes use a gas boiler of sorts for hot water. Most motor homes use leisure batteries which charge on hookup with 12 volt lighting tvs etc with gas or diesel or petrol powered heating with either fan assist or wet system heating. Invertors are available but a 2 -3kw generator would run the microwave and separately an electric kettle (these can be 3 kw). And could be used for recharging the batteries when hook up is not available.
Lorries are historically 24 volt although newer vehicles are 24 volt start but most of the services like lighting, cab sockets are 12 volt.

Hi Soprano. Like you I am not savvy with the technical end of things so I will muddy the waters.
Can I just suggest the need to ensure that the truck is adequately insulated against the weather. Also when you undergo certificate for roadworthiness you will need to ensure that window glass etc is suitably endorsed as suitable for vehicles, seat belts adequately anchored etc.
Have you a license category to suit the vehicle weight etc- C1 required for over 3.5tns, I think.
Enjoy.

Hi Soprano, We converted a 10m bus into a motorhome so might be able to help a little. Essentially what you want to do will depend on the size of your vehicle your skill level and your budget. Couple of things I would suggest you think about re the shower. Do you have enough space for a calorifier, this will heat your water very quickly with no power drain. You can buy these ready made for about £450 or make one yourself for about £50. These operate essentialy by having 2 water tanks but in one you put a coiled copper pipe through that is attached to your engine radiator system, thus when your enginee runs you geta tank full of hot water, its excellent if you have the space and when installed is trouble free. I would suggest you just google how to make and you will get all the info you need. Regarding charging your battery, a simple split charge system with a heavy duty smart com should do the trick, this means when your engine runs, once your starter battery is full it charges your leisure battery, with the benefit of not draining your starter battery when using your leisure battery.
Would strongly suggest you check out the SBMCC website, your first 10 posts will be free but to access most of the good info you must join, think its £15, its money well spent.
Hope I havent made things more confusing for you.
Anna
