Hi

We have a 20 year old Hymer Ducato Model 564 (not 524 as I posted on our profile). How do I know if this is an A class or not as it doesn't say anything on the logbook. Also - what is the difference ?

Thanks folk. 🇧🇭

Hi superdog,

There are basically three types of motorhome or campervan.

The most common are probably the 'C' class which are like my logo, ie take a standard cab and chassis from Fiat, Peugot, Ford etc and then build a living are on the back. this is normally wider than the cab.

The 'A' class starts with just a chassis and engine and then the manufacturer builds the whole driving and living area as one unit (rather like a small coach or bus). They usually look nicer than a C class and usually have a large wide windscreen. Often there is no door at the drivers position.

The third style is the panel van, which as the name suggests you take a standard Ford transit, Mercedes sprinter etc which then is converted inside for living. Narrower and smaller height, they seem more popular in the UK. than here.

Google a few pictures and you will soon spot the difference.

Thanks to both of you for this information. Vehicle is 'all in one' and has only one door so can now confidently fill in my request for insurance that it is A Class.

Now back to putting the springs back on the old girl (motorhome - not wife). They were getting tired so have just had them re-tempered and an extra leaf put in to give her a bit of a lift and when the weather gets a few degrees higher - off we go.

Again, thanks folks.

Ray

p.s. Wife is originally from Co Down - Newry
