RED, AMBER & YELLOW WARNINGS for HEAVY SNOW, HIGH WINDS & ICE have been issued for Northern Ireland (See Map & Details below on affected areas)
Please note: This warning is subject to changes and will be updated throughout the day
RED WARNING:
Late on Thursday night, Heavy rain is to move North across much of Northern Ireland, it may start off as rain at low levels but it will readily turn to Sleet and Snow, this is to continue throughout Friday large Accumulations are likely, within the RED area accumulations in excess of 30 – to even 40cm is possible, please note the RED warning is in force for higher ground although this may change later (See AMBER warning below for Lower levels) High winds up to 60 mph are also expected that combined with heavy snowfall may lead to blizzard conditions and drifting. Along with interruptions to power supplies.
AMBER WARNING:
Within the AMBER warning area accumulations of up to or in excess of 10 – 15 cm widely with 20cm possible. (For coastal areas see Yellow Warning)
Again high winds up to 60mph will be an issue and lead to blizzard conditions and drifting snow, leading to hazardous conditions.
YELLOW WARNING:
Within the YELLOW warning area accumulations of 2 – 5 cm is likely with up to 10cm in some spots, although some areas may have Sleet & Rain mix especially along the coast.
ADVICE & DISRUPTION
Major travel disruption is possible; you are advised to take extreme care if you have to travel although we are ADVISING THE PUBLIC TO AVOID ANY UNNECESSARY TRAVEL!
Disruption to power supplies is also possible due to the combination of heavy snow and high winds which may allow snow to accumulate on power lines.
Cold weather and snow can be extremely dangerous for Elderly and vulnerable people, so please check on neighbors and relatives to insure that they are warm and provide assistance if possible in the event of power outages.
