Why can satellite dishes not be used on an Aire or wildcamping we have one on our wish list rather than a status. For France a status would not have reception of UK/Ireland broadcasts.

I think Dave is refering to A tripod mounted dish.

If you use an Aire everything must be contained within the footprint of your vehicle.
I would imagine it would be fine on a secluded wildcamping spot but maybe not in a busy place..

If you have a dome satellite you can use it anywhere some of them even allow it to be used when on the move, but as mark says, a tripod one outside isn't a good idea when not on a site

I think reception depends on where you are, I have got the digital channels only occasionally (time wise not reception wise) as I have satellite on the MH, but would use an internal aerial when its a bit windy. At home I get digital on the tv's fine, but again mainly use the freesat.

Have you used a signal booster to improve the reception, as well as that when the official switch over happened you had to retune the TV to receive all the available channels.

In different area's of the country I think you would have to tune your tv into the signal from the closest mast which may be different from the last time you viewed tv

you do have to retune the TV when the signal mast changes the new digital signal seems to be all or nothing not great for moving receivers like we are ( ahh modern technoligy boxes wires dishes dont you love it ) 🇧🇭

At least with analogue the picture might of been crap but still watchable. As Dave says Broughshane is a complete blank spot.

Been a few times I have not been able to get anything, reason why I bought the portable dish from RDLS

One must remember that unless you can get reception from a main transmitter, in the UK most on the relay transmitters are vertically polarised, this is very important for receiving a digital signal, and most places we would wish to park are served by relay transmitters

How does that affect us? anything to do with the angle of the aerial? never really understood why the aerial tilted!

In Northern Ireland the three main transmitters "Divis,Limavady and Brogher" are all horizontal transmission and the others are vertical polarization, to align on the transmitter and receive the maximum signal your aerial must match the transmitter polarization, in Broughshane for instance some of the village uses vertical transmissions from the Buckna transmitter. a good tip is have a look at local aerials and copy direction and polarity.
If you are using a relay transmitter only some digital channels will be available
