Welcome to the Craic, Danae.

Have you done your homework regarding registering the van as a camper and are you aware that there are regulations covering Glass and gas instulation etc. It is a bit of a mine field converting a van down south.

I dont intend to install any glass other than buying a side door from a crewcab which already has glass fitted, im not particularly fond of using gas either so have thoughts of electric cooker and potbelly stove... Will either of those be likely to cause me bother do you think?

What do you intend to burn in the PB stove?

Where are you going to store wood & turf? Pot belly stoves are very hot in a small area, so you could get burned passing it not to mention carbon monoxide and the weight of it. You also mentioned electricity for cooking, where will you get the electricity ? Generators can be heavy and noisy . There is nothing wrong with gas if it is installed correctly. Just my view, I'm sure there will be others

Solid fuel would be stored in my dog trailer as id only need a few bags, hadnt thought much about the generator as i will only be using it for cooking and being in a camper id only be cooking simple things anyway. I had been looking into a yukon stove but have been struggling to source one

My biggest problem is the shower? Do you transport a load of water around or how do you do this?

Normally the water is stored in a PVC tank under the van and it is pumped with a 12 v pump to the cold taps and through a gas water heater to the hot taps. How do you intend to heat the water if you don't have gas? Getting back to your conversion if you are from Southern Ireland and want cheap motorhome tax and insurance you will have to pay vrt to the revenue commissioners and the camper will have to be inspected and pass regulations. If you decide to drive it as a commercial van it will have to be taxed private like a car unless you have a vat number or you are a farmer with a herd number. Make sure you check everything out before you buy the van as it might be cheaper to buy a converted van.

It will be taxed as a comercial vehicle and insured as a commercial vehicle anyway as i can easily use it as a work van for a while.
