vaillant gas water heater

Hi, I have a VAILLANT GAS WATER HEATER in our place in Spain but every time we change the gas bottle we have a job getting the thing to start again; it seems to be the time it takes the gas to charge up the system again, we sometimes leave it for an hour and then it works!
we change the batteries in the spark chamber frequently but it still takes ages to start the system again. when it does it works fine until the next bottle change!
has anyone else had a similar problem?

Dave

We have a Junkers one at our place in Spain ( get us with second homes lol) and ours does the same, it's because of a loss of pressure from the regulator to the unit. How old is the orange pipe as it needs to be changed every three years at least and five at the latest. Is your water heater outside or inside, our is outside in a boiler house and over the winter if we haven't been out for a couple of months it's as though the damp gets in. I usually turn the gas on then start the cooker to draw the gas through then light the fridge and then make sure the water heater is working.

Hi, I thought most people had a place in Spain these days! The gas heater is the only gas item we have; everything else is electric, I wonder if there is a SAFE short cut to keeping gas in the system? our heater is inside so damp is not a problem. it seems to be a common problem.
The gas bottle is 16 euro so it is a very cheap way to heat the water for showers baths etc and is very good when it starts!

We are in the campo so electric is what we generate and store in batteries so we need as many things as possible on gas. Check the date on the orange hose as it may have a small leak, but after that its probably something you will have to live with, I know that if I don't turn everything on in a certain order you would spend ages trying to fire the things up. Have you thought of changing the water heater? We bought one from Leroy Merlin for our apartment and it starts quicker from no gas than the Junkers and it was only around 100 euro. If you are on a development have you asked any of your neighbours if they have the same problem.

Hi, Thank you for your replies; I change the gas hose every year, 2 euro from the brico, I do the bubble test to make sure there are no leaks! as we would do in the van. we will be out in April so I will get it serviced and decide if I should go with another system. There are rouge "Butano" men charging a fortune to change the orange gas hose!

Best wishes dave

Don't know about rogue butane men, but Repsol are the biggest bandits, a charge for this and a charge for that and don't forget to pay a fee for this so we can charge you for that. After all that, you still have to drive into town to get a new bottle. The only main change is that they have closed the local Repsol office and can now get gas bottles at the local petrol stations, imagine that!
