Motorhome Aire for Carlow Town

A copy of request/letter sent to several Carlow urban councillors. Let's hope it is the start of something positive!!

Hi ,

As you are aware for the last couple of years, I have been encouraging you to make a strong case at Council meetings for a Council-run motorhome Aire (stopover facility) for Carlow town.
Many Councils around the country already have official aires in place, eg. Wexford (Ferrybank), Cobh and Clonmel to name just a few. A quick Google will name many more.

I was prompted to write this e-mail by last Friday’s ‘Nationwide' (18th April) report on “Barrow Valley Activities Hub”, which gave “fantastic coverage on Graiguenamanagh on Nationwide tonight! with Presenter Anne Cassin, highlighting tourism on the Carlow/Kilkenny border…" https://www.rte.ie/player/seri…72-25-0043

Many people interviewed by the presenter were so positive about ‘The Hub”. The town of Graiguenamanagh has reaped huge benefit from the whole project, not least a boost of over one and a half million euro to the local economy. Surely Carlow town and the local economy would welcome such an injection of funds. I believe that there is huge potential to tap into the resource that Motorhome owners bring to an area. As the summer of festivals approaches, it's such a pity that motorhome owners cannot travel to Carlow town, park safely overnight, enjoy the town’s facilities and in turn leave their monies behind!

I hope you will take the suggestion in good faith, do research into the project and hopefully Carlow might have a state of the art council run motorhome aire in the near future.

Thank you for reading this e-mail; I await your reply,

Sincerely,

Excellent letter, hopefully it bears fruit in the not too distant future. Some great restaurants in Carlow. Just one thing... Ferrybank is not an Aire, it's a commercial caravan and camping park operated by Wexford County Council. I've been bashing my head against a brick wall with the Council for a number of years now and nothing. The furthest they've got is to draw up plans for an Aire in New Ross which I thought would have been open for last summer, so far not even a sod has been turned on the site. Hopefully you'll have more success with Carlow.
