It certainly is a problem. I sometimes take walk amongst them in La Cala, and it's obvious some are overstayed.
The answer, of course, is to provide more, official aires, from what article states, there's no policy will. The aires that are in and around Fuengirola, are run in a pretty amateurish way, from what I can see, and there is a real shortage of private sites also.
This means that the sites are in high demand and so they're not cheap....

Maybe it's because I live in a tourist country but I understand the attitude of the Fuengirola Council.
As well as that of many other places.
Fines?
They are welcome and should be paid. In fact, after a second check, I would seize the vehicle.
I don't understand why the south of Spain is besieged by thousands of campers who, perhaps, travel in Concorde or Morelo but refuse to pay a few dozen euros for a site or an equipped stopover.
And the local community pays for waste disposal and water (I guarantee that in southern Europe it is not cheap).
Let's stop claiming that motorhomers bring benefits to the economy.
Bullshit.
How many times have I read of Brits who pretend to smuggle a full refrigerator when they cross the Channel?
Even milk, as if French one is worse than English.

Let's not even talk about A-frames and the like, it's better that I stop here.

Hmmm.... Agreed to a point, as a property owner just outside Fuengirola I agree. Our water, waste and basura prices only go up, and yes, it's farcical that owners of £100k + motorhome owners won't spend a minimal amount to stay. Aires work very well in France, but unless the local council are willing to spend on an aire then I see it being a continual problem. We've always spent in a local economy, so you cant tar everyone with the same brush. Most weekends away, we'll spend £150/200 and this time, since our arrival in Spain, 2 weeks ago, we've probably spent over €1000 in local restaurantsand shops not to mention my yearly, Spanish taxes....
With regards to A frames, having used them for years, I love 'em...😉
Don't start me on gassing on the Autoroute...🤣

Hmmm...
I agree about France (but Italy is also full of areas).
However:
Last year on our Spanish tour (6.200km, from San Sebastian to Tarifa, Valencia and Barcelona) we used comfortable campsites and areas (more or less equipped, paid but also free).
In a total of 36 nights in the country we used 13 campsites and 23 areas.
Some free, most paid for an average of 10, max 25 euros per night.
The only exception is A Coruna, a nice area but €47.

The rest just proves me right.

Smile, Max
