As some of ye already know we had a disastrous house fire a few weeks before Christmas, no injuries thank God but about 70% of the house, a dormer bungalow, destroyed. Everything above wall-plate level will be in the skip plus one gable end will have to be knocked down to ground level. The main thing is we all walked away without a scratch and saved the MH as well, the rest is only sticks and stones and can be rebuilt. I can hear the cog wheels turning from here, NO.....it wasn't faulty electrical wiring.
We're just about getting back to some kind of normality after spending weeks sifting through the remains to salvage what we could, that's the reason I haven't been on here for a while. What do ya mean nobody missed me
On a more serious note, check your household insurance. We found out that we were a bit under insured for the house, I think it may have been my fault putting in the area of the house i.e. the footprint rather than the total floor area i.e. upstairs and ground floor. We had good contents cover so we should be OK in the end. Check your policy. Will the sum insured cover the cost of demolition, disposal of debris and rebuilding ? Contents, have you enough cover to pay the cost of replacing everything, not what you paid for it originally. Is your shed/workshop/garage and contents covered ? It's a hell of a PIA trying to make up a list of all tools and equipment you've collected and built up over the last 40+ years. Check your policy guys, it's an experience I wouldn't wish on anybody. The house will be repaired, summer's coming and there's motorhoming adventures to be made. Onwards and upwards.
