Seeking Insurance Advice for a Year-Long Camper Adventure in Europe

We’re planning to sell our house and embark on an exciting year-long journey across mainland Europe in our camper next autumn. Our ultimate goal is to spend the winter months in Fuerteventura, where we have friends.

However, we’re running into an issue with insurance. Our current insurance provider only offers coverage for up to 3 months within a 12-month period. Has anyone else faced this challenge?

Our camper was professionally built by a camper builder and is classified as a camper on the logbook. That said, does it still count as a “self-build” for insurance purposes?

Additionally, does anyone know of a European insurance company that could provide coverage for an extended trip like this? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Who are you with, is it Stuarts, have you tried Dolman?.
Also it would be worth your while getting your van NCT. Just before you go so it doesn't run out before you are ready to come home, since you still can't get an EU mandated test outside your own country.

Without a home in Ireland you will experience difficulties in keeping your status as an Irish resident.
Not being able to prove residency can cause problems getting various types of insurance, being qualified for various Social Protection services and determining your tax status, among other things. Think of all the things which require Irish residency to access.

Anyone planning to have no place of residence in Ireland or plan to stay away for more than 180 consecutive days should carefully check what issues can arise.
