We're thinking of Spain in May of 2025 and wondering when is the best time to book? Another way of asking is...do Ferry Prices change much or remain static all year long? Thanks in advance! Con

Compared to Ireland-France and Ireland-Spain the Irish Sea crossings prices are a serious rip-off.
How can a 3 or 4 hour crossing across the Irish sea be changed for at more or less the same price as the much longer crossings to mainland Europe.

Yeah it doesn’t make sense,it must be port fees and stuff, maybe out at sea doesn’t increase the actual fare by much, the same date for Easter week ,Dublin Cherbourg return 2 people and van is 670euro ,and that’s with cabin, at them price’s you’d never get to Scotland

Did I read somewhere that the Irish sea is most expensive strip of water to cross by ferry to the UK ? We could never justify the cost when you can get to France for a similar price !

I should add, if you book now with Brittany ferries for April next year you pay a deposit and the balance is taken in February - softens the blow.

I have never understood the high price for irish sea crossing compared to cost of travel to France. It really is a rip off.

I was looking at driving home for Christmas to bring the dogos with us, looked at the cost of the Santander/Roslare route for mid December to mid January and with the car, not motorhome, it was still up around €1100. So much for low season, glad i'm based on mainland europe now

I did some homework. If you come across any Poli-Tic's over the next few weeks you could ask why are we a on this island being held to ransom, shafted, Ripped off, no getting the same movement opportunity like the rest of Europe.?
There appears to be one he'll of an expensive piece of water to cross in the north Irish Sea.??
Feel free to print off to get a better look and to hand out a copy to the said Poli-Tic's.

That's great work and shows the huge difference in hourly sailing rates. I would really like to know how the companies can justify the massive difference in rates between Irish sea and France crossings

Brittany Ferries operate dynamic pricing. Usually the best price is on release of the timetables, but the nearer you get to the date of sailing the higher the price is likely to be. We always book as soon as the winter sailing schedule is released - we want a pet friendly cabin - and as said above you pay a deposit and the full amount a few weeks before departure.

There are 3 pricing levels for tickets, so if there is any possibility of you having to make an amendment or cancellation it may be advisable to buy one of the flexible options.

Read the terms on BF flexible tickets, they're not as flexible as other companies and once you start a trip the return flexible is cancelled, how they get away with that, I don't know, you've paid for a flexible return but you don't get it

The T&C's are a nightmare cause they are all different. Always book two separate one way tickets for out and return journeys. Never combine the two journeys into one return sailing ticket, for the reason you have highlighted. This applies to all ferry operators and also all airline flights.

I was pricing a one way Rosslare to Bilbao in December and it is €377.50 on the BF site but Nutt Travel quoted €372 for the same date 2 people 6 M camper and inner cabin. I don't buy flexi - I buy standard just a few days before travel as I am only 40 minutes from Rosslare port.
