Is it just me or things getting harder to travel within Europe. Motorway tolls and Green Zones are making it harder. I avoided tolls through France, paying only €30 odd for one section as Class4. In Switzerland I paid €40 for the Motorhome and the same for our 125cc scooter. In Germany no tolls but has to avoid the Umweld areas. I thought I would nip into Belgium but they are looking me to buy/rent a satellite box that I then have to preload with credit. I looked into that but it's a 16 point application just to get the box, then God knows about preloading it. Last time in Portugal I got a fine after registering the van on the motorway system but passed through a bit of motorway that it didn't work on. It's either get my head around it or get a van under 3.5 ton and up the years

OK rant over just going to open a bottle of cheap wine I bought in France when I got off the boat

Then when you get off the boat we'll get you before you get home, unless you want to go home trough Julianstown, Drougheda, Dundalk etc. 😊

I've heard the A22 toll road in Portugal is to be made free from 1st Jan and possibly others but I'm not sure on that, at least something is going the right way

Over 3.5t is a pain in the arse which is why so many continentals have 3.5t rated motorhomes plus a Category 01 (not exceeding 750kg GVW) trailer. The combination gives a gross 4.25t GVW while keeping tolls etc at car rates and avoiding HGV regulations

In Austria we felt as though we were being stalked, by the asfinag, if you bleep 3 times and aren’t sure were the next point of sale is your starting to look at every hole in the hedge for the go box sign then the app tells you it’s 50 miles away,by that stage you’re through maybe another tunnel or 2, so your in the red, then having to back pay to get back up to zero euro , then try to work out how much you’re guna need for the rest of the trip , Slovenia not much better, if you drop below 25 euros you must top up, suppose the plus side is it’s all mileage based so if you can keep of the toll roads as much when you’re in your can stay much longer

I seen a lot of this for the first time and hadn’t a clue what was going on so I put it down to people wanting more stuff with them then I realised after about a week, then in Germany seen lots of morelos towing vintage porches , but that’s for a entirely different reason

I agree with Jason that tolls are a pain. I totally avoided Austria last year to negate the need for a go box, instead using Switzerland to get to Italy. Switzerland had an app for tolls, you pay for a set number of days so mileage didn’t matter.

In Italy most of the tolls were booth pay and they do have a few like the M50.

Greece was booth pay.

Spain have got rid of quite a few of theirs but from Bilbao to Zaragoza it’ll cost me around €40.

It's a strange one, when you look at some of the top of the range factory Van Conversion they are over 4t

If changing mh or the doctor didn't want to certify me for a C1 licence I would definitely go for 3.5t plus a 750kg version of one of these

2 of them parked opposite me and they drove in and parked up perfectly, a great idea
