what amazed me was what the cars were doing stopped on the bridge before the ship hit, it had to be obvious that the ship was going towards the pillar. :-/ Phones, real time video's, CNN

Did you hear what they just announced, they stopped traffic going onto the Bridge, but left six Guy's, who were repairing potholes and they are missing, with their family's gathered together waiting for word

an open-source audio-streaming service, show officers discussing the workers on the bridge and plans to notify the foreman. But within about 20 seconds, before an officer could drive across the bridge and deliver the news, the structure plummeted into the water.
They are still not sure if there were other cars on the bridge.

The stopped vehicles on the bridge might have been involved in the repair process or belonged to the missing workers.

I find that strange that a bridge in a busy shipping lane did not have protection (dolphins - not the swiming type) to ward off errant ships coming into contact with the supports.
