The somewhat common practice of Continental motorhomes towing a small trailer is in part to avoid HGV tolls.
A 3,500kg GVW motorhome has many practical benefits.
- An EU Category 01 trailer, one not exceeding 750kg MAM (GVW) can be towed behind on a simple B Category Licence, giving an effective overall GVW of 4,250kg.
- In some countries, car speed limits apply to vehicles towing a Category 01 trailer
- Car vignettes and toll rates apply.
- The Light Goods or Car roadworthiness test applies.
- Because only a car licence is necessary none of the medical tests related to keeping a C or C1 licence apply.
And, if you can't reverse a trailer one of these is the solution [youtube]
