Has anyone who’s experienced in frequent ferry travel ever booked one way ferry travel not knowing when they’re returning, is there still plenty of availability in late August with a couple of weeks notice say from Spain to Ireland

I have a one way booking ,just changed a Harwich - Hook of Holland from May to end Sept due to some medical problems , intend to do Holland ,Germany ,maybe Luxembourg and then France for maybe a couple of month , it does give me a few options and routes to return if the weather is not too good and need to cut it short unlike if you are just doing the Spain - Ireland route.
There would appear to be no problem other than in late August ( 22nd )its near €541 but by end and into September it could be down to €431 for M/H +2P, Flexi

Always. Never booked a return because we never knew when we’d be coming back. But we are always travelling off peak (September/March) window.
A have done it during the summer on the Calais Dover route as I didnt have an exact return date. There are that many ferries on that route its not usually a problem getting some sailing
As a side note I have booked one way on the Roslare Bilbao route for the end of the month
