We, we're travelling on the French motorways, yesterday, Cherbourg to Méribel. Usually the toll machines show Class 4 when we go to pay but yesterday I had a bit of a, surprise when one machine showed Class 1. At another machine I spoke to an operator when it showed Class 4. He said something in French and changed it to Class 1. It went from €14 down to €4.

Motorhomes are class 2, if anything higher displays hit the help button and say 'nous sommes un camping-car, classe deux s'il vous plaît', that invariably gets the charge reduced to class 2 without further discussion.

I do that Baguette, trouble is sometimes they see the third axle. I just have to use charm and good looks to get the Class 2

Ya, the third axle is a dead giveaway that you're over the magical 3.5t.
Me, I'm also over 3,5t but I look like I'm not O-)

The Angle Mort regulations are a real French idiosyncratic idea. EU HGV mirror regulations plus the replacement of mirrors by onboatd cctv cameras provide a full view of the 'Angle Mort ' areas for the driver, in reality there is no Angle Mort anymore, except normal one directly behind the vehicle.

I drove an HGV for the first time in years this morning , cameras everywhere, automatic gearbox, no need for the Angle Mort, there's no blind spots anymore and buses are the same, bureaucrats with nothing better to do

Last September I saw some Trucks pulled into the Car park before the Filling-station In Cherbourg , one guy, Presumably the driver was fitting Angle Mort Signs on his truck, while being observed by a Blue uniformed guy, his Buddy was standing beside their car on the end of the slip road.
