New Members

I was looking at the membership list today and counted over 30 members who have joined but not posted anything. I think it would be a nice gesture if on joining an introduction was posted. We are all friends here and it would be good to know who everyone is.
Does anyone else agree with this sentiment?

This is true Brian but not everyone likes to post on foums in their first few visits. I would be happy to see the people who have not posted yet just be happy to return.
Once people feel that the forum is for them they will post.

I.have seen forums which don't allow access to the whole site until you have made a certain number of posts. This is meant to make people feel comfortable with other members. Sometimes it can have the opposite effect and puts people off joining at all.

I think the approach of this forum is.working well and am surprised at how many members are active already.

There will ways be a small percentage of registered members who never post. The more members we have the more posters there will be.
As this forum is not that well known yet it is up to all of us to promote it when we can.

I know what you are saying Brian and ideally it would be great if each new member said hello and introduced themselves, but ... what Mark said.

I belong to a French forum where you have to post an introduction on a separate "Introductions" section before you can post anywhere else on the forum. You can still read others' posts, so you don't have to post if you really don't want to.

Personally I'm happy whatever. Sometimes people are happy enjoying others' content, and they'll still spread the word about the forum elsewhere. The danger of insisting on an introduction is you risk losing potential members.

Hi, I'm one of those new members, thanks for the words of welcome from the greeter and others. I am a member of a couple of other forums and I find that I visit, read and only post when I have something which I feel is worth saying. This doesn't stop me enjoying the forums and the chat on them,
Ivan

Hi Ivan

Welcome to craic. Thats why we need more women on the site, we dont have to have anything worth saying :D :D
thats probably why i've lost my voice at the moment.

Enjoy the craic.
