Here is the plan for a new Aire to be developed in New Ross Co Wexford by Wexford County Council. Work due to get underway shortly and hopefully open for next Summer.

Here is the site on google maps.

More information to follow as it becomes available.

It's great Dave, no need to put down white lines or anything, the only problem will be moving the Aldi operation to the Greenfield site next door, :-/ but, there is a bit of saving on Tarmac ? :o ;-)

The divergence of thinking among the county councils across the country is unreal. Compare what's happening along the south coast with what's not happening along the west coast.

It would appear that the thinking here is, the middle ground between Graiguenamanagh, ( which they have visited ) and Cobh, with all the facilities of an Aire, where you can put out your awning, table and chairs and have somewhere to sit and meet with friends and others, without having the cost of a toilet and shower block, you would need in a regular camping park, which I think would be a great way forward, in this country.
It has been suggested that, they cost it, in sections, like the cost of Service facilities, then say the cost of pitch layout, by 5 or 10, so they can provide the information to other towns / villages, who might like to do something similar, in a smaller or larger scale,
anywhere in the County or other County's for that Matter.

It’s difficult to see exactly what is planned as the image is low resolution and can’t be made bigger.

Also the shape of the Aire looks longer thinner than google maps image. And is the Aldi moving?

That said the location would be handy for the ferry or a bit of shopping.

As Baguette said the different approaches being taken by Councils in Ireland is staggering. I know Councillors in Clare has taken a few fact finding trips to see Aires in other counties but nothing has been proposed for Clare.

Hopefully the one at New Ross will be built and well used.

Aldi are not moving that's Just Dave taking the Pi**

It is the site beside Aldi, the revised, pictorial is not to scale, it is just to show what the layout would be like for discussion purposes at the local meeting, now that's been accepted, planning can go in, hopefully in January, they bought the piece of ground with this in mind, so planning should go through without too much hassle.

If the herring one was to be the other way round in the final plans it would facilitate a nice view of the river through the windscreen.

Not sure what you mean,( If the herring one was to be the other way round ) the site is about 40 mtrs from the river ,looking towards the fishing spots, from the end at the canopy sitting out area, beside pitch 12, ( left side as you look at the picture ) there will also be a small gate out onto the river walk. the whole site is about 180 x 60 mtr's. and would have to be raised up about 2 mtr's to get a view of the river.

Effin predictive text 🙄.
What I meant was herring bone.
The way it is motorhomes are faced towards the road, if it was the other way motorhomes would be facing the river for what it's worth.

That's not a bad idea, but for everyone I would suggest, the way to go is hold off until there are plans available, then look around your town / village, for sites that are Council owned or abandoned land, that you can include with a reference to the plans, and be seen to be trying to help local community.
