Just booked with Grimaldi lines for October 24 Barcelona to Italy ferry. 7.5m x 3m high. 2 people one dog and captain class cabin just under €380 one way. Leaves at 9.30pm arriving 7pm the following day. Saves around 1300km of driving.
They have 20% off at the moment.
Going to book Italy to Greece soon.

What do you estimate the net cost of the ferry is after taking into account fuel and other expenditures if travelling road.

That’s quite good really.
Be interesting to see what the total costs one way of:
Ireland to Spain
Spain to Italy
Italy to Greece

I’d drive back thru Albania/Montenegro/Bosnia/Croatia/Slovenia/Italy & France.

That’s an interesting question and I’m not sure. But having done the Italian route to Spain this year along southern France which took 3/4 driving days, too many tolls and lots of mountains I don’t think I’m out of pocket and staying in the owner’s suite is a nice luxury. I could have saved a few euros in a standard cabin perhaps.

For me it’s not about the money more the enjoyment, I didn’t like the trip from Italy via southern France to Spain, many would love it but I did not.

I’ll let you know more in October 2024.

That’s sort of my plan, I’m not sure if I’ll do Rosslare to Cherbourg or Rosslare to Bilbao or Santander.

But fairly certain we will do Bari to Patras again.

Then aim to drive up same route as you’ve already mentioned.

Just did a fuel calculator for 800 miles at 25mpg and fuel at €1.85 a litre and it was about €270, then add tolls and wear and tare etc a few Aires on route and my ferry for €372 is quite reasonable.
