EHU Question

I guess EHU connectors are meant to be tight fitting. Mine goes in fine but then to get it out I have to pull quite hard while wiggling it from side to side at the same time.

Is this normal ?

Are you familiar with the automatic locking mechanism which must be held in the release position while extracting the plug

EHU Question Topic information

The lads may be right, how it works is, if you plug the lead plug into the lead socket you will see that the socket cover, clips over a small nib on the plug, this is to stop the lead from pulling apart by accident. That same happens when you plug the socket into the van,the cover slides over a nib in the van socket, the little blue leaver, lift's up the cover to disingauge it from the locking nib. Operate the leaver without the socket plugged in, to see if in fact the release mechanism is working.

Always found that if you push the plug 🔌 in slightly then push down on the release lever it comes out easier

Think its so tight is to make sure the pins fit snugly to prevent heat build up from a bad electrical connection etc,

I have seen quite a few seasoned campers lift the cover from the lead and point it twords the clouds and ram the plug into place,

I showed one lad the correct way was to let the cover slip in over the white part that holds the pins and he just walked off without a word of thanks or anything .....I was sorry i bothered showing him after his reaction,

I very seldom bother helping anyone these days unless they ask, as you get no thanks for it and they somehow get offended.

Yeah I generally push down on the blue lever and hold the auto locking mechanism in the release position while pulling it out.

Mind wonders at the physics behind something that goes in easily needing so much more effort to get out

Next time I'm in an environment with other arounds (usually charging at home) I'll nicely ask someone else to have a go just to confirm it's not something I'm missing

Thanks for the feedback guys

I always thought it was part vacuum holding it as it's that bloody tight.

I’ve seen the power pins melt into the plastic (loose connection causes it) and it then causes the pins to be ‘bent’ in the wrong direction afterwards…. It’s quite a common occurrence.
This can cause it to be super tight to mate up and take apart.

They are designed to be weatherproof, and not easily pulled apart, so they are a snug fit, but you could have a distortion on the side, the van or the lead
I would try a few different plug's, in your lead socket, then try some sockets in the van outlet,to see if there is any difference.
I know what your thinking, your going to pull, the whole thing out of the van. I did on my old Sprinter.

 That's exactly what I'm thinking when I see the back of it oscillating as I'm pulling. I tried not putting it in all the way after the chat here and it did come out a bit easier so this is an approach I will try out a bit more.

Have silicone spray, will try that thanks

Today again didn't push it in all the way (left it 2-3 mm short) and it came out easier. Though still not easy !
