I'm in Switzerland and been in France, Germany in past week. I bought a Free Mobile 210gb sim card at Free Mobile store at cite de Europe in calais. You can actually buy them from an automatic dispenser in the store but the section about post code can be confusing if you don't speak french, so ask the attendant. They were very helpful. The card we got is a data only sim (full voice/text etc are available) and has been superb so far. It has connected seemlessly as we moved through the countries and we are into Italy tomorrow so I'm sure that wil be straightforward too. The plan gives 25gb of the data to be used in other EU countries, the remainder of the plan will see us through to 15Aug when we head home. It was 35euro all in and no repeat payment will be taken as you have an option when buying to have a one off monthdea, or a cancell anytime rolling option of 210gb per month. It was plug and play and literally started working straight away. Before we left I had bought an RwG mobile euro unlimited data SIM in uk (a welsh operator who sell online)...but they were literally chocolate teapot territory...so id stay well clear.

Called into the Free ( phone ) shop in the shopping center, end of the first aisle to the left before the Auchan supermarket. the girl in the shop was great, she set the whole thing up, including a French address ( she used the one for the shop ), €19.99 for 30 days. used it in a spare phone to Hot spot two phones the tablet and Laptop. it continued to work on roaming back home until the time was up, and I think you can wake it up if you return to France within 6 months.but it has made me think about home. ( different topic ).
